Mr. Jessie James Johnson

Mr. Jessie (Fever) Johnson was born January 13, 1931 to Governor and Clara Johnson in Union Springs, Alabama. He passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. At an early age, Jessie was baptized and united with the Bethlehem Baptist Church in the Bruceville Community of Union Springs, AL where Rev. Job Williams served as pastor. He moved to Saginaw, MI in 1951 and became a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where Rev. Walker was the pastor and later attended Zion Valley Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor John Rincher. Mr. Johnson met and married the love of his life, Olavene (Cameron) Johnson in 1953. He was a retiree of General Motors Corp. (Delphi) where he worked for 31 years and was a member of UAW Local #467. He loved to fish, hunt and play cards with his wife, family and friends. He also loved good music, blues, spirituals and good preaching. Jessie was a great cook. To know him, was to love him. To celebrate his life and cherish his memory he leaves his loving and devoted wife, Olavene Johnson whom he loved and cherished for 63 years; one sister, Catherine Ivey of Montgomery, AL; four god-daughters, Eva Poindexter, Regina Mack, Felicia Evans all of Saginaw, MI, and Nichole Hoking of Fayetteville, N.C.; four sisters-in-law, Emma Watkins of Atlanta, GA, Dorothy Carter of Montgomery, AL, Ular Cameron and a very special sister-in-law, Ruby Weems of Saginaw, MI; three grandchildren, Bruce Poindexter, Jr., Wesley Willis, Jr., and Darnell Louis all of Saginaw, MI; four special nieces, Constance Ivey, Sandra Ivey, LaDoris Ivey and Cynthia Ivey all of Montgomery, AL; a special cousin, Hosey Campbell along with his cousins, Climmie Hales, Bobbie Nunn and Claudia Kelly; other relatives and friends including special friends, Alvin Jernigan, Sr., Stanley Welch (Marie), Grant and Marie Crockett, Jim Colvin and Mary Hubbert. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Governor and Clara Johnson; three brothers, Nathaniel and Wesley Johnson and john Henry Willis; one sister, Josephine Pierson; and son, Wesley Willis, Sr. Funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 818 North Washington Avenue, Pastor Robert Davis, Jr., Host Pastor. Pastor John Rincher will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Family will be present from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
