July 4, 1939 - July 15, 2020
Jimmie Mae Chambers-Logan departed this life to be with the Lord on July 15, 2020 after a short illness. Jimmie Mae was born on July 4, 1939 in Phenix City, Alabama. She loved celebrating her birthday each year with friends and family. Jimmie was the daughter of Jimmy and Louise (Gosha) Chambers and was their only child. She graduated from South Girard High School in Phenix City, Alin 1956. She went on to higher education and received a degree from Alabama State University in Education. On August 4, 1959 Jimmie Mae married the love of her life, Samuel David Logan, Sr. after being high school sweethearts. Jimmie moved to Saginaw, Michigan in pursuit of employment after graduation. She worked for the Saginaw Board of Education for 42 years as a devoted Language Arts teacher. Her first assignment was at Arthur Eddy Middle School. She was transferred to Central Middle School where she was over the National Honor Society Program and various committees. Jimmie confessed Christ at a young age at Pine Hill Baptist Church, Phenix city, AL and has been devoted to the Christian walk from that point forward. She was an active member of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Roy L. Manning. She was a member of the CMBC Gospel Choir, served as the CMBC Youth and Children Director for several years, kitchen committee, Deaconess, Senior Ministry and various committees with in the Corinthian Baptist Church family. As the youth director she was devoted to the well being of the children. She made sure that they were in attendance for rehearsal, working with the parents, they had rides to various activities, making sure they had clean clothing, food and learning about the word of God. Jimmie loved to cook and share her meals with family and friends. On Saturdays she would prepare her meals for Sunday. All over the church they would ask what did you cook today? She is known for her famous “Peanut Brittle and Dressing”. She leaves to cherish her memory, devoted husband Samuel David Logan, Sr.; her two children, Vandetta Yolinda Logan and Samuel David Logan, Jr. (Myra Turner); step-daughter, Jolie Armstrong Sneed; granddaughter, Hailey Michelle Logan; nieces, Wendy Crowell, Midland, GA, Sonja Logan, Atlanta, GA, Kimberly Bailey, McKinney, TX, Natalie Logan-Sharp, Benton Harbor, MI and Hilda Calhoun, Atlanta, GA; aunts, Mrs. Joyce Gosha, Midland, GA and Christine Gosha, Phenix City, AL; sisters-in-law, Vivian Logan, Dublin, GA, Eudora Logan, McKinney, TX; god-daughter, Ashley King; special friends, Dorothy House, Barbara Brown, Helen Owens, Faye McKinney, Lucy Smith, Laura Turner, Lubertha Brown, Beatrice Hannah, Phyllis Little, Edward Nesbitt, Dot Perry, Linda Weaver, Loistene Johnson, Lester and Laquita Booth and LaShawndra Logan. Jimmie was preceded in death by her father, Jimmy Chambers; mother, Louise Chambers; grandparents, Nathaniel and Lillie Gosha; aunts, Mattie Billing, Molly White, Fibbie Middlebrook and Lillie Almond; uncles, Johnnie Gosha, William Gosha and Joseph Gosha; brothers-in-law, Robert Logan and Rev. Floyd Logan; a host of cousins, too numerous to name. Visitation will take place from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2020, at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607. A private funeral service will be held. Pastor Roy L. Manning will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 s. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601.
