July 27, 1946 - February 19, 2021
Mrs. Josephine Bradley went home to be with our lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at the age of 74 years. My beloved mother was born on July 26, 1946 in Brandon, Mississippi to the union of the late Joe and Marie Washington. Josephine gave her life to Christ and was proudly baptized as a young child in Brandon, Mississippi under the leadership of the late Rev. J.T. Truvision of Truelight Baptist Church. At the age of 16 her family relocated to Saginaw, Michigan. After relocating, the Washington family joined New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor M.T. Thompson. Later the family moved their membership to Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church that was founded by her brother, Rev. Arthur Washington. Josephine was a dedicated member of and served on the Senior Usher Board faithfully. Rose Hill pastoral leadership transitioned to the late Pastor Levi L. Patton. During her final years Josephine joined her brother, Pastor Otis Washington at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church. Josephine retired from Grey Iron Foundry as a production worker. She was a member of the United Auto Worker Local #668. Josephine enjoyed fulfilling her life with joy and laughter amongst family and friends, whether it was going out to dinner, visiting or simply catching up over the phone. During the summer Josephine enjoyed the simplicity of sitting outside, getting some fresh air. She had a quick-witted sense of humor that was hilarious and no nonsense. Some of her favorite past times were shopping, and hanging out with her fur baby, Spankie Bradley. No matter if she attended Detroit Pistons basketball games or watched them on TV she was always rooting for her team. It did not matter, if she was in the stands or in the comfort of her home, she said she had to help them win! Josephine will be missed beyond measure by her daughter, Brenda Beckom; granddaughter, Loring Beckom; grandsons, Donta Griffin, Jarriel Reed, Sean L. Beckom II all of Saginaw, MI, Vestie Reed and Quintel Reed of Duluth, GA; sister, Dorthy (James) Donald; brothers, Rev. Arthur Washington and Pastor Otis (Bonnie) Washington; 15 grandchildren including Ahmoni Reed and Sevin Enciso; sisters-in-law, Ara Lou Bradley and Katie Bradley and a host of family and friends, including longtime friends, Mary Reed, Lorraine Payne and Mary Smithers, the Messiah Church and Rose Hill Church families. Preceded in death by her husband, Vestie L. Bradley, Sr; son, Vestie L. Bradley, Jr.; step-daughters, Vanessa Henry and Valencia Bradley; parents, Joe and Marie Washington; sisters, Willie Mae Clayton, Berniece Donald, Gloria Jean Calhoun, Rosie P. Neloms, Florence Mae Scott, Pauline Luke and Forestine Washington; brother, John D. Washington; nephews, Dwight D. Washington, Cedric Luke, Anthony E. Beckom, Sr.; sisters-in-law, Vealea Washington and Annie Spiekener; seven brothers-in-law; many other special family members and friends including special friends, Minnie Evans and Mattie Bond.
