Josephine Lowery

Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 721 Johnson Street. Pastor Rodrick A. Smith will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Browne's Mortuary, 441 North Jefferson Avenue on Friday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will conduct a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. Our devoted Josephine Lowery passed away at her home suddenly on Sunday, November 25, 2007 at the age of 61 years. Josie was born November 21, 1946 in Plainview, TX. She attended Saginaw Public Schools and was a graduate of Saginaw Valley State University receiving a BA in Secondary Education. Josie taught a number of years in the Buena Vista School District, she later became Director of State and Federal Programs for the district. She retired from the BV School District in 2004 and was recently elected to Buena Vista's Board of Education. Josie was past president of the Buena Vista Lioness Club, a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., and was a faithful member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She was an avid reader. Josie is survived by her loving and supportive husband, Bobbie Lowery; a son, Damon (Leesa) Melbourne, Australia; daughter, Kenyetta (Eric) Gray, Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, Eric, Errol, Errow, Asia, Isis and Cleopatra; brothers, Leandrel and Jessie Polk both of Dallas, TX, and Leland Driver, Plainview, TX; sisters, Rudy Owens and Aquilla Watson both of Plainview, TX and Mattie Beachum, Saginaw, MI; brothers-in-law, Doris (Jennie) Willsboro, NJ, Lee Arthur Lowery (Leona), Schaumburg, IL, James (Helen) Lowery, Tracey, CA, Jonah and Timothy Lowery both of Saginaw, MI; sisters-in-law, Bernice Barlow, Saginaw, MI, Irene Lowery, Croydon, PA and Hester Lowery, Saginaw, MI; many other relatives and friends including her extended family members, Mable Holloway and family, Vivian Keys-Brown, the families of the Taylors, LorAnn, Delores and Harry Taylor, the Sharpers, Howard, Gwen and Ollie, Marla Winters, DeAndre Mitchell, Reggie Stanton and Ledell Wilson-Stewart of San Francisco, CA. Mrs. Lowery was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson and Thelma May Jackson; mother, Addie Driver; brothers-in-law, Oscar Lowery and Wesley Lowery. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all who have supported this family through these difficult times.
