Mrs. Luewana Layton

March 11, 1933 - May 16, 2022

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Luewana Layton transitioned to her heavenly home peacefully on May 16, 2022. Luewana, affectionately known as Mama Layton was born on March 11, 1933 to Aron and Annie Bell (Snell) Holden, Sr. Luewana Holden married the love of her life, Arthur Lee Layton, Sr. on September 27, 1952 in Saginaw, Michigan. To this union, “The Layton Legacy of Love” was formed through their ten children; Arthur Layton, Jr., Toledo, OH, Christine Layton, Delores (Ricky) Johnson, Geraldine (Ronnie) Owens, Clifford Layton, Jerome Layton, Robert Layton, all of Saginaw, Alicia Banks, Toledo, OH, Shirell Layton-Winters (Robert) and Darnell Layton both of Saginaw. Luewana accepted Jesus as Lord while attending New Covenant Christian Center Church under the leadership of Bishop Ron and Lady Georgette Frierson. Fulfilling her life’s purpose to love and encourage those around her. Luewana could always be found celebrating life through her giving. No matter if she was purchasing groceries for complete strangers in the grocery store, buying diapers and milk for a mother in need, or feeding the neighborhood a hearty meal, Mama Layton always gave from God’s love and kindness. As she loved others, Mama Layton was sure to shower love on her family; first by teaching them to be thankful, how to take great joy in the small things of life, and to be respectful. A passionate homemaker, who enjoyed serving, Mama Layton was an excellent cook, encourager and greeting card maker that made everyone feel like family. Mama Layton never met a stranger. Luewana leaves to continue “The Layton Legacy of Love” her ten children; 18 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; a vast number of great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, Sammie Lee Byrd, Saginaw, Aron (Daisy) Holden, Jr. Round Rock, TX, Dorothy Brown, Nashville, TN and Louise Jones, Saginaw; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Layton was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lee Layton, Sr; parents, Aron and Annie Bell Holden, Sr.; granddaughter, Briana Lynn Layton; sisters, Marilene Hodges, Helen Ford and brother, Donald Holden, Sr. The Layton family would like to give a special thank you to New Covenant Christian Center Church, Saginaw Meals on Wheels and Covenant Medical Center. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at New Covenant Christian Center Church, 2395 South Outer Drive, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Bishop Ron Frierson, officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 South Washington, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM until time of service.
