Mrs. Mattie Brown Essex

Mattie Evens Brown Essex the third child of Hubeart and Fessie Mae Holden Brown was born May 26, 1940 in D’Lo, Mississippi, Simpson, County. Mattie was married to Jimmie Essex and to this union four children were born. She was employed at Jackson Steam Laundry in Jackson, Mississippi. Ms. Brown Essex moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1963. She was a faithful, dedicated, longtime member of Rosehill Missionary Baptist Church in Saginaw and began her work history in the church as an Usher and Kitchen Cook preparing delicious meals at church functions. She loved to dress and really enjoyed going to church. She was fully devoted until her health began to fail. Mattie could always be found helping and supporting in the church and those in the community that needed help. She was employed at Vlasic Pickle and Saginaw Steering Gear, General Motors. Her most precious job was raising her children and grandkids. Mattie opened her home and her heart to the fostering and caring of young children. She enjoyed family gatherings, music and dancing. Mattie was blessed to live a long and fulfilled life and shared many precious moments with her family and friends. On Friday July 12, 2024, Mattie surrounded by family accepted the call of God to rest in her new home in heaven. She will truly be missed by all who loved and knew her. Mattie’s memory will be forever cherished by those she leaves behind, children, Linda (Stephen) Hardy, Jimmie Stuckey, Joeann Essex and Larry Essex; grandchildren ,Theotis (Takisha) Essex, Twanda Essex, Larry (Lacey) Wright, Conquella Essex. Antwenette Miller, LaShonda, Latavia, Thomas and Rushon Essex, Lebron, DeAngelo and Tyrese Hardy; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Annie Jean Brown, Mary (Alton) Smith, Shirley Jackson, Ruth (Carey) Mallard, Pauline Williams, Hubeart (Lorraine) Brown, George (Martha) Brown, Linda Brown, Bobby (Pamela) Brown, Gloria Brown, Bessie Perkins; bonus children, Larissa Patillo, Lynette Thomas, Tee-Ar Dawkins, Chona Garner, LaKisha Powell; special friends, Doris Davis, Pastor Murray Culberson and the Rosehill Missionary Baptist Church family. Mattie was preceded in death by her by her parents, Hubeart and Fessie Holden Brown; brothers, Albert and Charles Brown; sisters, Annie J. Welch; granddaughter, Rachelle Essex; son-in-law, Joseph Stuckey and Tyrone Rump; special friend, Nancy Beverly. “God has you in his arms, we have you in our heart.” Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607. Pastor Otis Washington will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemeter, 3201 S. Washington, Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
