Mrs. Pauline Luke affectionately called “Polly” by her family and “Ms. Shorthorn” to some, was born April 7, 1952 in Brandon, Mississippi the daughter of Joe and Marie Washington. Pauline was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the age of 68 years. Her loving family was by her side. “Polly” relocated to Saginaw, Michigan in 1963. Our beloved Pauline was a loving, funny and devoted family member to her Washington family and friends. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She was a graduate of Saginaw High School, “Class of 1970”. Her hobbies included singing, gardening, spending time with family and talking stuff, “LOL”. Pauline became a faithful member of Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Levi L. Patten where she served as a dedicated choir member until her health failed. She later joined Messiah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her baby brother, Pastor Otis Washington. In 2008 after becoming ill, Pauline retired from a lifetime of customer service working at Shorthorn’s and St. Mary’s hospital. Pauline was a loving and dedicated wife for 27 years to William “Earl” Luke until he preceded her death in 2000. She leaves her legacy of love. Her memory will be cherished by her sons, Anthony (Cassandra) Luke and Everett Luke, both of Saginaw, MI and Earnest Wayne, Ellis, TX; daughters, Tangela Hunt, Saginaw, and Antwinette L. Luke, Virginia; grandchildren, Shy’Tavia and D’Tayvion D. Luke, both of AZ, Shanell M. Luke, Anton Hibler and Jordan Caffey, all of Saginaw; sisters, Josephine Bradley and Dorothy (James) Donald; brothers, Pastor Otis (Bonnie) Washington and Rev. Arthur Washington, both of Saginaw; daughter-in-love, Brenda Beckom; niece/daughter, Latonya Lindsey, Arizona; sisters-in-love, Sunobia Simms, Saginaw and Joyce Beavers, Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, special family and friends including, Clairee Sanders and Mr. & Mrs. Carter. Other than her husband, William, Pauline was preceded in death by a son, Cedric L. Luke; daughter, Shonta Luke; granddaughter, Akila B. Corley; parents, Joe and Marie Washington; mother-in-law, Gennie “BB” Rayford; brother, John D. Washington; sisters, Rosie P. Neloms, Berniece Donald, Gloria “Jean” Calhoun, Willie Mae Clayton, Florence Scott and Forestine Washington; sister-in-law, Vealea Washington; special nephews, Leo D. Washington, Vestie L. Bradley, Jr., Tommie Washington and A.C. Washington. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, 2615 Williamson Road, Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Otis Washington will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 South Washington, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Friends may call at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607 on Friday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m.
