Mr. Richard Dwight Hammond

November 20, 1946 - January 30, 2021

Our beloved brother, father, grandfather, uncle and spiritual mentor, Richard Dwight Hammond, age 74 of Saginaw, Michigan went on to be with the Lord, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, January 30, 2021. Richard was born in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Burnetta and Willie Hammond. Richard served in the United States Army and worked at Delphi Automotive in Saginaw, for over 30 years. Richard Hammond was a devoted and dedicated member of Victorious Believers Ministries COGIC in Saginaw, MI. Mr. Hammond was a radical, comical, and kind-hearted individual. His main goal was to always help others that were in need, no matter how much the cost or inconvenience. Mr. Hammond was known for his eccentric colorful sense of style, and his distinctive and infectious laugh. Richard was committed to his walk and relationship with God. He studied the Word daily with family and friends. Everywhere he went he witnessed to anyone he felt needed an encouraging word. He was DETERMINED to tell everyone about Jesus. His children and grandchildren will miss his funny jokes, voicemails, interesting sense of humor, birthday cards signed as “Glad Dad”, his bold fashion statements and his gift to rhyme. Richard was very competitive. He enjoyed singing, playing tennis, shooting pool and laughing with his family. He was dearly loved by many. Some of Mr. Hammond’s most memorable and favorite phrases were “That stankin’ devil”, “Glory to God” “Help me Dear Lord” and “la-da-di di di”. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Burnetta Hammond. His beloved wife of over 30 years, Lafolyette Hammond. His eldest sister, Annette Waller and his daughter, Chevon Hammond. Mr. Hammond leaves to cherish his children, Yolanda (Andre) Cottrell, Kannapolis, NC, Kareem (Dawn) Hammond (Concord, NC) Verlon Hammond (Saginaw, MI), Kirsen (Mitchell) McKeithan (Durham, NC), Kylese Hammond (Charlotte, NC), Jalen Hammond (Concord, NC). Two sisters, Joesette (Roosevelt) Hill, and Collette (Isaiah) Weathers both of Saginaw, MI. 11 grandchildren: Devante Hammond, Kareem Hammond Jr, Verlon Hammond Jr., Dominic Hammond, Kylayah Hammond, Tarvis Moore Jr., Aylonah Norris, Ja’Von Thomas, Jaylen Bates, Alexandria Cottrell, Mitchell McKeithan Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, sisters and brother-in-law, cousins and friends. Mr. Hammond aka “Flash” was truly one of a kind. He will forever be missed. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 5. 2021 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607. Supt. Christopher V. Pryor will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington St., Saginaw, MI 48601.
