January 3, 1955 - September 17, 2020
Vanesha Tyson gained her wings at the age of 65 years on Thursday, September 17, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 3, 1955 in Saginaw, Michigan to Louise Derden and Roy C. Tyson, Sr. Vanesha grew up in the Buena Vista School District. She was a BV Knight, through and through although she spent her final year in Vassar, MI and ultimately graduated from Vassar High School in 1973. Those who knew her growing up all called her Duke, the nickname her brother PeeWee gave her. Vanesha may have been nice, but Duke did not play. Vanesha worked 18 years for Duro-Last Roofing, Inc. She knew her job well. She flew out to Oregon and Mississippi to facilitate their new production launches. She was intelligent, hilarious and great in most things she did. She was a fantastic cook and made the absolute best tacos. She loved pool, spades, tennis, Rocky and could hustle with the best. Her favorite past time was bowling. She formed countless lasting relationships that gave her an abundance of extended family to add to her own. She started bowling in the 1970’s and travelled all over the country as a TNBAC member, gaining recognition for multiple 600 and 700 series games, a perfect 300 game, bowler of the week and won too many trophies to count. When her water broke with her one and only daughter, she had to stay and finish her game before heading to the hospital. As much as she loved bowling, she found no greater joy than being a mother to her one and only child, Janelle, whom she shared with Larry Jones; and a granny to her only grandchild Janiya. She wound do anything and everything for those she cared for. That love was personified most when she took care of Janiya, and her mother Louise which she did up until her own health began to fail. She showed us that family should always stick together, be strong and hold each other up when one link in the chain begins to grow weary. Her spirit never faded and her smile was always bright. She was our “Shero!” Vanesha leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Janelle Tyson; granddaughter, Janiya Strodes; another daughter, Mary Grierson, Saginaw, MI; siblings, Gregory (Vickey) Tyson, Sr., Jackie Smith, Cynthia Derden, Detroit, MI, Caroline Jones and Gladys Williams, both of Saginaw, MI, Johnny (Janet) Leonard, Kenneth (Linda) Roberson, Barbara Roberson, Brinda (James) Moore, Texas, Jannie Johnson and Gloria Ford both of California, Kathrine (Edward) Jones, Florida; aunts and uncles, Josephine Haynes (Saginaw, MI), David Smith (Georgia) Jewel (Joe) Dorsey (Texas); nephews, Roy C. Tyson III and Gregory M. Peoples Tyson, Jr.; special daughters, Monique and Karletta; son-in-love, Jayson Strodes; too many other favorite family members and bowling sisters to list without being offensive. Ms. Tyson was preceded in death by her parents, Louise Derden, Roy C. Tyson, Sr; brother, Roy C. Tyson, Jr. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at First Baptist Church, 5580 Frankenmuth Rd., Vassar, MI 48768.Pastor David Somers, Host Pastor and Bishop Dempsey Allen will officiate with interment in Riverside Cemetery, Vassar, MI.
