To behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in His temple.” A wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and teacher received the greater victory of the lord on Wednesday May 4, 2022 at the age of 79 years. Victoria was born September 3, 1942 in Wisner, Louisiana, one of four children to Ruben Sargent and Rosie Lee Johnson. Vickie grew up in Franklin Parish, Louisiana attending elementary and high school in the Wisner Public School System. She was baptized at an early age and became a member of New Light Baptist Church. Being a graduate of Grambling State University, she earned her Teaching Degree in Special Education. She was married to James Monroe on June 19, 1966. Victoria taught for four years in Louisiana. After moving to Saginaw in 1969, she studied at Central Michigan University, Michigan State University and Saginaw Valley State University. She started her career with the Saginaw City School System at Houghton Elementary, she completed 25 years of teaching at Herig Elementary. The family became members of True Vine Baptist Church, later transferring their membership to Tabernacle Baptist Church. The last 28 years, she has been a faithful member of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Roy L. Manning. Here she started a program for kids called, “Little Ones for Jesus.” She spearheaded the Communication Department for the church, the Drama Department, Church Historian and other programs. Victoria was the author of many poems and published a collection of writings with the help of her sister, Shirley Green. She loved working with the youth and writing skits, and organizing annual programs and outreach for her church. Victoria leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Jamie O. Monroe, Orlando, FL and Roderick Monroe (Vikki), Saginaw, MI; special nephew, Vershon Watson, Utica, MI; six grandchildren, Lacey, Michaela and Zachary Monroe all of Lansing, MI, MyKenzie Monroe, Owosso, MI, Payton and Isaac Monroe, Saginaw, MI; sisters, Veronicai A. Watson, Saginaw and Shirley Green, Alexandria, LA; brother, Leo Johnson, Columbia, SC; brother-in-law, Michael McKinely, Saginaw, MI; nephew, Raymond Johnson; three nieces, Leah Johnson, Columbia, SC, Stephanie D. Hearne, Desoto, TX and Decioria Wilkerson, Dallas, TX; great-niece and nephew, Makayla Johnson and Alex Johnson, a host of other wonderful relatives and special friends. Victoria was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Monroe; parents, Ruben Sargent and Rosie Lee Johnson and a sister, Veola McKinley. The family wishes to acknowledges special thanks to our Pastor and Mrs. Roy L.Manning and the entire Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church family. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, May 13, 2022, at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48607, with funeral services commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Roy Manning, officiate. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 South Washington, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM until time of service.
