Mr. William Theodus Duke, affectionately known as “WT”, began his earthly journey in life on March 12, 1940 in Forester, Arkansas, the son of Mattie B. Tate and Theodus Marsh. He gained his eternal wings and entered the kingdom of Heaven on Monday, June 15, 2020 at the age of 80 years. William relocated to Saginaw, Michigan with his family at a young age. He attended Saginaw Public Schools and was a 1958 graduate of Saginaw High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army, receiving an Honorable discharge for 2 years of service. He then began employment with General Motors and retired after 38 years of faithful service. On June 14, 1982 William joined Alma B. Davis-Thirkill in holy matrimony, she survives him. “WT” was a faithful member of New Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Eddie Jackson. He enjoyed all sporting events and especially loved spending time with his family and friends. With his humorous wisdom, he always kept it real. Always seeing the positive in every negative situation, his encouraging words would light the darkest of days. His wonderful, loving presence will be truly missed by all who’ve known and loved him. He leaves to celebrate his legacy his devoted wife of 38 years, Alma B. Duke; one daughter, Remell J. Duke of Atlanta, Georgia; four sons, William T. (Tiffany Gossett) Duke II and Alex J. Duke both of Saginaw, Michigan, Reginald and Rodney Miller both of Atlanta, Georgia; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Carol (Robert) Kelly of Hooks, Texas, Elvia L. Mills and Joyce A. Jones, both of Saginaw, Michigan; one brother, Randall Rivers of Saginaw, Michigan; five special sisters-in-law, Phyllis Sharper, Alesia Richardson, Alexis (Dennis)Moore, Alysia (Leroy) Smith and Holly (Reginald) Jordon; one special brother-in-law, Victor Davis; two god-daughters, Lashell and Rachelle Young; several nieces, nephews and cousins, including his special cousins, Herman Scott and William Jones; numerous friends including special friends, Tyrone Bryant, Rudy Patterson and Carl Williams. “WT” was preceded in death by his grandparents, William Tate, Tempie and Joseph Duke; mother, Mattie B. Orr; father, Theodus Marsh; two brothers, Keith Richardson and John Sharper; one sister-in-law, Janie Rivers; three brothers-in-law, Frank Mills Eddie V. Jones and Joseph Davis; mother and father-in-law, Josephine and Alex Davis. The family of William T. Duke wishes to express sincere thanks to the devoted and caring staff of Covenant Healthcare Harrison, Pastor Eddie Jackson and the New Friendship Baptist Church family, the staff of Evans & Browne's Funeral Home and everyone who offered kind words and loving condolences. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home. 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw,MI 48607. A private funeral service will be held. Pastor Eddie Jackson will officiate with interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI.
