Mr. William Hershell Johnson Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

William Hershell Johnson Jr., entered this world on July 11, 1969, at Methodist Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana as the first child and only son born to Agnes Rose Johnson and William H. Johnson, Sr. He was the most adorable baby boy and as a child was affectionately nicknamed “Pudgy” by his family. A name that he only acquiesced in adulthood as a result of the love he had for his family. William was born into a military family and traveled throughout the world as a young child living in Louisiana, North Carolina, Hawaii, and Georgia before ultimately residing in Saginaw, Michigan. He attended Nell Haley Elementary and St. Mary’s Catholic School where he played football and was a member of the debate team. William completed his secondary education at Saginaw High School as a member of the Class of 1987 Trojans. While in high school, William was actively involved in the Student Council and the golf & football teams. As a child, William developed a passion for art, building and re-building computers, Star Trek, Star Wars and all things Science Fiction. Continuing on with this passion into adulthood he attended SCI-FI conferences and sold & traded memorabilia. William’s love of art led him to study at Kendall Institute of Arts in Grand Rapids, Michigan where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design with a minor in Computer Science. Pieces of his portfolio was selected and displayed at the Art Institute of Chicago. After graduating from college, William pursued his passions as a multi-faceted entrepreneur offering services as a freelance photographer, graphic artist and computer repair. He owned and operated Power Software, a retail storefront business in Saginaw. Additionally, William was a licensed real estate agent in Michigan and worked with Century 21 Realty. William had an extraordinary witty personality and possessed a profound curiosity for nature, with an eye for always seeing beauty – in people, places, and unordinary objects. With a heart of compassion and empathy, William had a willingness to assist anyone in need. He once drove across the country to be a caretake of his sister Akemi’s cat while she was traveling abroad. William was a fighter, full of tenacity and perseverance until the time that he transitioned from this life on Friday, July 8, 2022 at the age of 52 years old. William leaves to celebrate his life and forever cherish his memory, his loving and devoted mother Agnes Rose Johnson; his one and only younger sister Akemi (Anthony) Mitchell; Godmother Erlene Jones, special cousins Brandalynn R. Winchester & Hilry Winchester, close friends Lisa Patterson; Dexter Mitchell and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other family & friends. William was preceded in death by his father William Hershell Johnson Sr.; Grand Parents Starkey and Cora Melton; Imogene Davis and Walter Johnson. It's a far, far better thing I do than I have ever done before. A far better resting place that I go to than I have ever known - Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan: Family hour 10:00 AM Thursday, July 14, 2022, from the Chapel of Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Dr. Marvin T. Smith will officiate. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601.
