Mr. Willie Walter Sherman

November 15, 1928 - March 15, 2022

Mr. Willie Walter Sherman was born on November 15, 1928 in Ferriday, Louisiana to Willie Sherman and Luvinia Mason. He passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at the age of 93 years. Mr. Sherman was employed at Grey Iron Foundry Div. General Motors Corp. and was a member of UAW Local 668, he retired in 1993. He was a dedicated member and served faithfully at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church for many years. He loved his church family, serving as a Trustee, on the Usher Board, sang in the male chorus and enjoyed attending worship service. He had great respect and passion for his Pastor Vincent D. McMillan. He loved to hunt, fish and bowl. He was a good provider for his family, Mr. Sherman worked two jobs until he retired. He leaves to cherish many memories his children, Lois (Michael) Balls, Josie (Jonathan) Cash, Willie Mae Washington of Covington, GA, Billie (Marjorie) Sherman of Lansing, MI, David Leek of Flint, MI, adopted daughter, Lakiya Pettis of Covington, GA; 72 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 52 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beatrice Chapman and Bernice (William) Dix; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hills; a host of nieces, nephews, many cousins including special cousins, Archie Singleton and Gloria Mason-Nix, other relatives and friends. Mr. Sherman was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Josie I. Sherman; sons, Charles Sherman and Clarence Whiting; grandsons, Da`Mario Sherman, Sr. and Bryant Montgomery; granddaughter, Desiree Coleman; parents, Willie, Sr. and Luvinia Sherman; grandparents, Johnny (Nancy) Mason; one sister, Marie Hunter; two brothers, Alex Hawkins and Lee Sherman; father and mother-in-law, John (Bertha) Newell; and one sister-in-law, Grace Sherman; brother-in-law, James Chapman, Sr.; special cousins, Sam Singleton and Clark Singleton. The family would like to express special thanks to Hospice 4th floor nurses and doctors at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, Michigan 48607. Pastor Vincent McMillon, Officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 South Washington Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m.
