Mr. Alfred McKenzie

Our beloved Alfred “Al” father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend transitioned to enter the gates of heaven after two long grueling years of illness. Despite his illness, he continued to stay engaged with the family and friends. Alfred was born in Saginaw, MI the of son Lloyd and Nettie B (Hall) McKenzie. Alfred is a 1967 graduate of Buena Vista High School. After High School, he entered the military serving in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Upon returning home, Alfred went to work for the State of Michigan Department of Transportation for thirty years and retired. In early 2000, Alfred rededicated his life to Christ and served as a Deacon for two different churches. Al allowed his footsteps to be ordered and established his services through playing the Bass guitar. Music was his outlet and therapy. Bass Man played any genre of music that had a strong bass line. His favorite genre of music was R&B (The Dramatics, Temptations, Johnny Taylor and Tyrone Davis) and Gospel (Lee Williams & The Spiritual QC’s). In 1990, he united in marriage for the third time to Arneatha Little until her demise in 2016. Their marriage was blessed because God was the focal point. Alfred leaves the following to cherish his memory: one daughter, Rhonda (Tyrone) Bridgewater; two sons, Ronald (Dallas) McKenzie, both of Saginaw, MI and Maurice McKenzie of Houston, TX; 14 grandchildren, Mar’Shay McKenzie, Mar’Shaun (Tory) Atkins, Tyrell Bridgewater, Tyrone Wilkins, Shatyara Bridgewater, Trevion Williams, Ronald McKenzie, Jr., Ronnesha McKenzie, Jazzmin McKenzie, Briona McKenzie, DaRonnie McKenzie of Saginaw, MI, Maurice McKenzie Jr. and Amorah Grace McKenzie; a host of great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce (Alphonce)Williams and Victoria Wilson, both of Idlewild, MI; brother-in-law, Pastor Jimmie Little; three nephews, Jacque McKenzie of Phoenix. AZ., Eric McKenzie of Jackson, MI and Scott Williams of Saginaw, MI; two nieces, Dana McKenzie-Simmons of Saginaw, MI and Denise (Craig) Arestad of Phoenix AZ; three great-nephews, De’Laurien McKenzie of Phoenix AZ, De’Joiry McKenzie-Simmons of Washington D.C. and Ariyan Williams of Tampa, FL; one great-niece, Erin Nicole McKenzie of Milwaukee, WI; five great-great-nieces (Phoenix, Az, and Milwaukee, WI); special cousins, James Lewis of Detroit, MI and Dennis Hall “Quake” of Saginaw, MI; lifelong friends, Loston Arnold and Ollie Montgomery; best neighbors ever, Charles & Alice Thompson and family and Mrs. Mary Smithers; lady friend, Sylvia Mason. Bass Man was preceded in death by his wife, Arneatha McKenzie; parents, Lloyd Sr. and Nettie B. (Hall) McKenzie; two brothers, Harold and Lloyd, Jr. McKenzie. “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe in me.” Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, March 10, 2023, Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Jimmy Little will officiate. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI 48442. Visitation is from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
