Ms. Betty Jean Conner

At the age of 67, Betty Jean Conner passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at her home. Betty was born in Altheimer, Arkansas to the late Samella Ruth and Vernon Cannon. She was a longtime resident of Saginaw and a proud graduate of St. Joseph High School, Class of 1983. Betty attended New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Johnnie Goodman, where she faithfully served for many years as a member of the Usher Board and Pastor’s Nurse Ministry. She enjoyed dancing, eating, shooting pool, and playing card games, but above all, she treasured spending time with her family and friends whom she loved dearly. She was caring, giving, loving, funny, and known for her bold personality. Betty truly lived life to the fullest. Although she disliked traveling, she spent many years living in Burlington, Iowa. Her favorite color was red, and her favorite meal was pinto beans and cornbread. Betty leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Toronto “Mookie” Conner; four grandchildren, Davonte Ray-Conner, Danielle Zurmuehlen, Nikita Conner and Tyesha Conner; four great-grandchildren, Ticcarra Zurmuehlen, La’Tavia Zurmuehlen, Avryanna Zurmuehlen and Ezekiel Zurmuehlen; three sisters, Filis Ruth, Linda (Jimmy) Alexander and Lorena Ruth; god-sister, Christella “Kay” Brown; two nephews, James (Patrina) Ruth and Corrie Ruth; three nieces, Tonea (Damon) Mayo, Shtameka Ruth-Carson and Renia Ruth; one uncle, Robert Ruth; one aunt, Rodell Craft, along with a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Samella Ruth; her grandparents, Samuel and Sarilla Ruth; and a host of uncles and aunts on both her mother’s and father’s side. The family would like to express special thanks to the caring staff at McLaren Bay Region, McLaren Hospice, and the residents of Maple Wood Manor for the love and assistance shown to Betty during her final days. The family also extends heartfelt gratitude to all special friends and loved ones who visited, called, and sent messages of comfort during her final hours. “Her love, laughter, and bold spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.”
