Ms. Carrie L. Winston

Carrie L. Winston went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at the age of 72 years. She was born March 21, 1946 in Sledge, Mississippi to Louis G. and Ida Mae Cotton. Carrie graduated from Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale, MS and attended Jackson State University. She married Preston Winston and from this union came three daughters. Ms. Winston was a licensed Day Care Provider. She cared for children well over 28 years before retirement. Carrie enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening and being a grandmother as well as a great-grandmother. Ms. Winston was a beloved Mother at New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher and Youth Worker. She also worked closely with the Women of Glow Auxiliary at New Friendship Baptist Church. She loved to fellowship, especially with her church family. She loved her family dearly and was a great source of strength and inspiration to them. We will all miss her great sense of humor and her wonderful smile. Carrie was a God fearing woman who loved doing God’s work. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Pamela Winston, Tamela Winston and LaToya Winston; two grandchildren, Keenan Winston and Latoriona Winston; one great-grandchild, Frederick Sutton, Jr. “Pooder”; sisters, Barbara Windham, Angenette Ivery, Marvine Cooper and Geneva Cotton; two brothers, Louis Cotton, Sr., and Leonard Cotton; two aunts, Margaree Hibbler and Geneva Marshall; a host of uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends including special friends, Jeannette Washington, Dr. Mildred Mason and Elaine (Houston) Jackson. Ms. Winston was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Cotton and Ida Mae Cotton; sisters, Jackie Cotton, Debra Hatchett and Sherry Beals; brothers, Darnell Cotton, Lieutenant Bledsoe and Kenneth Cotton; special friend, First Lady, Wanda Jackson and a dear friend, Francis Huffman. Funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 3404 Sheridan Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Eddie Jackson will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607 on Friday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Family will be present from 6:00-8:00 p.m. to greet friends.
