Mr. Dan "Paul Gates" Curtis Martin

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at Mid-Michigan Health Center in Alma, Michigan after a lengthy battle with Covid. He was born June 9, 1947 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Abel Martin, Sr. and Rosie Williams-Martin. Dan was a graduate of Saginaw High School Class of 1965. He was employed by Delphi Steering System and was a member of UAW Local 699. He retired after more than 35 years of dedicated service. He also was a member of the Fairground Neighborhood Association and an Arson Watch Patroller for the City of Saginaw. Dan married Shirley Annette Burrell, May 12, 1997. His memories will be forever cherished by his wife, Shirley Martin; son, Askia D. Sutton; three granddaughters, Olivia Gonzales, Teyanna Curry and Ariana Sutton; one grandson, Askia Jordan Sutton; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Claudine “Penny” Fife; three brothers, Abel Martin, Roy (Cheryl) Martin and Larry (Rose) Martin; step-mother, Frances Martin; step-sisters, Herma (Earl) Addison, Irma McKinney, Lurine Calhoun; step-brothers, Mel and Patrick White; father-in-law, Henry Burrell; brother-in-law, Morris (Ruby) Stokes; sisters-in-law, Bernice Stokes, Mary (Hilton) Garman, Linda, Ada and Sharron Burrell, Stephanie Dunbar, Latoya Jackson, Cangela Williams, Rose and Ida C. Martin. Dan leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including his longtime friends, Odell Stanton, Calvin Little, Rosie Sutton and the Sutton family. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Abel Martin, Sr. and Rosie Williams-Martin; sister, Josie McCray; brothers, Donald “Dickie” Martin, John “Pete” Martin, Pierce “Tim” Martin and Joe “Nug” Martin; mother-in-law, Georgia Burrell; brothers-in-law, Elijah McCray and Onzo Fife; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Tracy and Eddie “Mae” Martin. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, 1111 North 29th Street, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Pastor Willie R. Hill will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Avenue. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
