Ms. Dawn Ann Hughey

Ms. Dawn Hughey went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Hoyt Nursing home with many loved ones by her side at the age of 65 years. Dawn Ann was a born January 5, 1959 in Saginaw, Michigan to Aurscant (Frank) Hughey and Helen R. Hughey at Saginaw General Hospital. Dawn Ann was a proud Trojan of the graduating Class of 1977 at Saginaw High School. She earned her Associate Degree from Great Lakes Junior College in May 1994. She was employed with the Saginaw Public School District for nearly 28 years working at various schools throughout her tenure. She always stated that Heavenrich Elementary School was her favorite school where she served as the Librarian. Dawn retired from Saginaw School District in 2021 after many years of dedication to the young people within the Saginaw Community. Dawn Ann was a faithful member of the World Outreach Campus Church under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Hurley Coleman, Jr. and First Lady Sandra Coleman. She truly loved her church home and many of the members were just like family to Dawn. Ms. Hughey loved to cook and eat all Hispanic food. She also enjoyed assorted arts and crafts activities as well as searching throughout Saginaw County for estate and rummage sales. Often she would find items of interests and would paint and/ or fix them to give to family and friends. Dawn Ann was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She is survived by her son, Dawaun Hughey and daughter, Shawnae Hughey; two grandchildren whom she loved dearly Tyjuan Hughey of Texas and De’Nae Hughey, Saginaw, two brothers, LaVann and James Hughey; two nieces, Jameshia Dorsey and Aurscanta Mounger; four nephews, Demetrick, Tremaine, DeAndre and Juma Mounger; god-children, Trynae Austin, Detroit, Damarion and Davarion Dennis of Texas; her extended family included Alisa (Marion) Griffith and their children Shavonna, Te’Onna, Da’Rell and Tre’Von. Dawn Ann is also survived by two very special cousins, Pat Todd and Francezola Ward of Muskegon, MI and a host of other loving relatives from Muskegon and Saginaw Michigan, Dayton, OH and Douglasville, GA. She leaves many cherished special friends, Pamela Cordwell, Glenda Cross, Faye Gillerson, Quangi Glenn, Mary Johnson, Cheryl Lowe, Gail Richardson, Stephanie and Genellon Terry and Cynthia Townsend. A very special friend Nita Williams who was more like her personal nurse and acted as her advocate for many years. There are so many other relatives and friends too numerous to list but never forgotten that have always held a special place within Dawn’s heart and soul. Dawn Ann Hughey was preceded in death by her parents, Aurscant and Helen Hughey; twin sister, Dawnae Estelle Hughey; brother, Aurscant Hughey, Jr.; sister, Jacqueline Mounger; devoted grandmother, Annie Mae Foster; aunt and uncle, Jackie and Leonard Porterfield; god-daughter, Marquanae Harris and special friend, Linda Love. The family extends special thanks to the Hoyt Nursing Home Services, Pastor Dr. Hurley Coleman, Jr., Dr. John Bartnik, Alonzo Betts and the Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home staff as well as Shar’Nice Holmes and Felicia Curry of Mercy Plus Health Care Services. Funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2024 at World Outreach Campus, 2405 Bay Rd., Saginaw, Michigan 48602. Bishop Hurley J. Coleman, Jr. will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington, Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 2:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday. Family hour will take place from 5:00-6:00 p.m. where the family will be present.
