Donovan Lewis Jones

Mr. Jones went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 25, 2013 at the age of 57 years. He was born on June 29, 1955 in Saginaw, MI, the son of Raymond and the late Vernestine Jones. Donovan accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of the Warren Avenue Presbyterian Church as a child. He later joined Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as the minister of music for nine years. Donovan received his Master’s Degree in Social Work at Michigan State University. He was employed by the State of Michigan Department of Human Services in Flint, MI and Kairos Healthcare as a Clinical Therapist in Saginaw, MI. He married Doris Burgman on October 14, 2000. She survives him. His memory will be cherished by his wife, Doris Jones; four step-children, Fredrick (Elizabeth) Kelly, Latasha (Andre) Lawson, Joseph Burgman and Brandon Burgman; four grandchildren, Jalen, Iman, Michelle and Akya; one sister, Kimberly Jones, Ph.D., Alexandria, VA; two brothers, Willard (Deborah) Jones, Alexandria, VA and Gregory (Cynthia) Jones, San Antonio, TX; five nieces, Dr. LaDonna Jones, Seattle, WA, Stephanie and Shadana Williams, both of Indianapolis, IN, Jennifer and Sara Jones, both of San Antonio, TX; one great niece, Grabiela Williams; three nephews, Gregory Jones, Swartz Creek, MI, Rollin Smith and Anthony Williams, both of Saginaw, MI; two aunts, Erma Jones, Los Angeles, CA and Erma Jean Jones, Wilmar, AR; three uncles, Lewis Ridgel, Corpus Christi, TX, Ernest Ridgel, Dayton, OH and Harold Jones, Los Angeles, CA; two sisters-in-law, Gail Snipes and Barbara Jones, both of Saginaw, MI; his brother-in-law, Odie Kelly, Philadelphia, MS; also a host of cousins and friends, including his special friends, Lathan and Kim Wilson, the Babers and Allen families, Kenneth and TyRunda Reed and Mario Corley. Donovan was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Williams; brother, Raymond Craig Jones; and brother-in-law, Lafarn Kelly. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church family, Covenant Healthcare and the Prince of Peace Baptist Church family. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2013 at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, 1111 N. 29th Street. Pastor Willie Hill, Jr. will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Avenue, on Sunday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
