Mrs. Estella Brown

It was on November 24, 2017 that Mrs. Estella (Allen) Brown made her transition through the gates of heaven at the age of 87 years. She was born on August 31, 1930 to Clarence Lee Allen and Annie Kate (Lemon) Allen in Warthen, Georgia. Estella accepted Christ at a very early age being baptized at the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Warthen, GA. It was October 28, 1946 when Estella married Willie C. Brown. Together they raised six children until his death in 1985. Estella loved teaching and started her career as a teacher in Washington County, Georgia schools. She migrated to Saginaw in the early 50’s working first at Potter School, then later at Kramer’s Wadsworth Dairy Bar, Cooks Restaurant, Bob Johnsons White Eagle, Raymond’s Restaurant and later at Harry’s Bar (now known as Elks Lodge #674). The job that made her the happiest was opening her own restaurant called the Top Hat, located across the street from the Saginaw Grey Iron Foundry. In addition to working hard at teaching and cooking, Estella loved baking, canning, and talking. She didn’t mind giving her opinion on how she felt the order of things should happen. Especially if it had anything at all to do with business in the Buena Vista Township where she lived for over 60 years. She served for several years on the Buena Vista Township Scholarship Committee. Left to forever cherish Estella’s memories are her six children, Bill Brown of Grand Blanc, MI, James Brown and Clarence (Brenda) Brown, both of Saginaw, MI, Stella Taylor, Las Vegas, NV, Exie (Robert) Robinson and Carolyn Griffin, both of Saginaw, MI. She will also be remembered by 15 grandchildren, Cynthia (John) Brown, Bill Brown, Jr., James Lyons and Tiron Brown, all of Orlando, Florida, Steven Taylor, Saginaw, MI, Elgie Jones III, Grand Rapids, MI, Eric (Effelina) Jones, Ypsilanti, MI, Ernesha Jones, Clarence (Tasha) Brown, Billie (Robbin) Collins, Kenya (Charles) Collins, Sherry Brown, Brenda Brown II, Tarence (Lateria) Brown and Courtney D. Griffin, all of Saginaw, MI; in addition, 46 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lena Hall and Laura Middlebrook, Atlanta, GA, Katherine Richardson, Brooklyn, NY, a host of other family members and special friends including, son-in-law, Larry Griffin, Enoch Harris, Pearl Heilig, Bessie Little, Mautrice Harris, Sarah Jamison, Nola Levelston, Lottie Sears, Lee Finch and Cornell Wicker. Estella was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years; parents; four sisters, Eloise Burns, Annie Katheryn Jordan, Pecolia Wallace, Mildred Allen; three brothers, Alvin Allen, J.C. Allen and Willie C. Allen; son-in-law, Carl Taylor; granddaughter, Stephanie (White) Jerkins. Family hour 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 1, 2017 at Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, 104 South 10th Street, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Roy L. Manning, Sr., officiating. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48607 on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Family will be present from 6 until 7 p.m. to greet friends.
