Mr. Garlan Delano Moten

Mr. Garlan D. Moten was born November 30, 1966 in Saginaw, MI, the son of Katie L. Moten and Bobby G. Cook. He passed away Thursday, October 31, 2019 at the age of 52 years. Garlan was an extremely funny and well-spoken man. He had the upmost respect for women, especially his mother. Garlan shared unique relationships with lots of people. He was a die hard “Steelers” and “Spurs” fan. He was the life of the party. He will be sorely missed for keeping us laughing, having a philosophy for everything, his quick wit and his unique quotes. Garlan was very special to his family and friends. Our lives will never be the same without him. Mr. Garlan Moten is survived by his son, Dominique D. Garrett, who he was so proud of; granddaughter, Peyton D. Garrett, who was the topic of 75% of his conversations; five sisters, Tara “Niecy” Moten, Joyce Daggs, Tarra (Gregory) Williams, Tina Cook and Samantha Cook; one brother, Cedric Moten; four nieces, who he was very close to, Charricka, Chanquice and Cierra Moten and Detoria Haire; four aunts, Lottie Bonds, Thelma (Bobby) Kelley, Dorothy “Dot” (Elmore) Haire, whom he had a very close bond with and Martha Cook; three uncles, Eugene (Arie) Moten, Jr., Oscar (Evelyn) Moten, Sr. and John Moten; so many cousins, too numerous to name; a special cousin who was like a sister, Eva Haire; great niece and nephew, that he had a very special bond with, Mani and Two; two step-sons, Darrell and Shaquille Powell; many other relatives and friends, including special friends, Charles Lawrence, Jamie Johnson, Jimmie Truss, Anthony P., Ralph B., Shawn H. and Rodney O.; his significant other, Nina Dawkins and her children and grandchildren. Garlan was preceded in death by his parents, Katie L. Moten and Bobby G. Cook; his grandparents, Eugene Sr. and Earnestine Moten, Louis and Nell Cook; his uncles, who were very dear to his heart, Ernest “Uncle Lil Bro” Moten, Sr. and Deacon Andrew J. Williams, Sr. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 11, 2019 at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, 2615 Williamson Rd., Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Taurus Simpson will officiate with interment in Buena Vista Cemetery, 612 South Airport Road., Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 49607 on Sunday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. The family will greet friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
