Deacon George H. Dorsey Sr.

Deacon George H. Dorsey, Sr. passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at the age of 83 years, he was born December 6, 1931 in Bourbon, Mississippi, the son of Jefferson and Sarah Dorsey, of whom has preceded him in death. He transitioned into his Heavenly home Tuesday, October 6, 2015 from Covenant Medical Care in Saginaw, Michigan. He accepted Christ and was baptized at a young age in Belzonia, Mississippi. After leaving Mississippi he moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1951 where he married Ann Bernice Moore, and to that union rearing two fine sons, Charles Brian and George H. Dorsey, Jr. His thirst for knowledge led him to attend Saginaw Public Schools and later Delta College, where he completed his Electrician Apprenticeship. Soon thereafter he was employed by General Motors Corp as an Electrician and retired in 1986 after 38 years. George joined Tabernacle Baptist Church and served as a devoted Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and Layman. George later joined Corinthian Baptist Church where he served under Pastor Roy L. Manning as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He regularly attended Bible Study, visited the sick and shut in and was a member of the Male Chorus and the Brotherhood. He served faithfully until illness prevented. George truly loved his family and friends. He thoroughly enjoyed visits from his family, church members and neighbors. George enjoyed fishing and was avid gardener. He was a fitness enthusiast and was a member at the YMCA which he attended daily participating in various activities that the YMCA offered. He was the fifth of fourteen children and was preceded in death by siblings, Willie Birk, Ezra, Charles, James, Roosevelt, Matron, Phillip and Robert Lee Dorsey, Bernice Manning, Sarah Morris and Cora Blagmon. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 60 years, Ann Bernice Dorsey; three sons, Charles B. Dorsey, both of Saginaw, Michigan, George H. (Arva) Dorsey, Jr. of Houston, TX and Charles Edward of Indiana; four grandsons, George H. Dorsey III, Jeremy A. Dorsey, Geoffrey D. Dorsey and Jordan B. Dorsey; brother, Rev. Dr. Roy L. (Beatrice) Manning of Saginaw, Michigan; sister, Alma J. (Clifford) Bonner of Chicago, Illinois; seven sisters-in-law, Ella Mae Dorsey, Pearl Dorsey, Mattie Calhoun, Judith Moore, all of Saginaw, Michigan, Katie Dorsey of Houston, Texas, Sara K. Moore of Detroit, Michigan and Bernice Dorsey of Joiner, AK; brother-in-law, Joseph (Betty) Moore of Detroit, Michigan; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 12, 2015 at Corinthian Baptist Church, 104 South 10th Street, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Roy L. Manning will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 South Washington Ave. Friends may call at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Sunday from 2:00 until 8:00pm. Family will be present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
