Gloria Jean Johns

Gloria Jean Johns passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the age of 68 years. Funeral service will be Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 12:30 PM, at New Vision Missionary Baptist Church, 14548 Joy Rd. Detroit, Michigan. Pastor Craig Burns officiating. Gloria Jean Johns, affectionately known as “Glo”, was born January 31, 1947 to the blessed parentage of Charles Johns and Lorraine Moorman in Roanoke, VA. Her life journey began in her hometown of Pittsburgh, PA were she was educated in the local school systems. As Gloria began her great story we call life, she met and was united with Charles Pearson Hendrix and from this union three children were born: Donna Michele, Lisa Charlene, and Charles Pearson III. She accepted Christ, became a member, and was baptized at the Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church of Saginaw, MI under the leadership of Pastor Roy. L. Manning, Sr. Gloria had a big heart and vibrant personality; people described her as being full of life and exuberance! Anyone who had an encounter with Gloria knew her family was the center of her joy and how much she loved them dearly. Gloria’s children, grandchildren and family members meant the world to her. She had a LOVE for everyone, and anyone who ever crossed her path couldn’t help but to return the same Love. Gloria never took for granted the people she met. Her personality was undoubtedly unique and sweet even when meeting strangers. With this unique personality of Gloria’s every person she met was family. They were loved, comforted, and free to be themselves. To them she was known as: Momma Glo, Grammy Glo, Auntie Glo, and many other nicknames. Gloria truly had a “Glo” that will never go dim. Gloria carried the wonderful gift of a servant. She loved to serve people at any given time. It didn’t matter if it was to prepare meals or just keep the cleaning going. Whatever her hands found to do she did it with all her heart and great joy. Gloria’s love to please others and welcoming personality was exhibited during her many years of employment in the Food Service Industry. Gloria never needed a reason to do what she loved to do when it came to cooking. Everyone loved Glo’s cooking! Her specialty we all looked forward to the most was the delicious fried potatoes and onions, her delectable pork pot and barbecued turkey legs. In the later years of Gloria’s journey, she volunteered services at Costick Senior Center in Farmington Hills, MI where she worked with other seniors and was awarded ‘The Loretta C. Conway Senior Division Award for Outstanding Dedication and Service’. Gloria also volunteered services with the City of Saginaw’s Senior Division as a Grandparent Volunteer Assistant at the elementary school in her neighborhood helping children with literacy. In addition, she was an active member of the Red Hatter’s Society, a National Women’s Organization. As Gloria’s journey in life ends, God saw fit to call his Angel home on Thursday June 18, 2015 in Saginaw, MI. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Charles Henry and George (Dover) Aldolfus; nephew, Stephen Tyrone and niece Javarra Lorraine. We honor her life, celebrate her homegoing and cherish her memory. She leaves a legacy of: 2 daughters , Donna Michele Hamilton of Chicago, IL and Lisa Char-lene Armstead of Westland, MI; 2 sons , Charles Johns (Fionn) and Paul Johnson (Linda), both from Detroit; 4 grandsons , Christian, Montonez, De’Andre, and Lamar, Jr.; 3 granddaughters - Amanda, Ashley, and Chelcee; 4 great-granddaughters , Kayreese, Ta’Mura, Tessa, and Jayla; aunt - Elenora Moorman; sister-in-law - Martie Lee Johns; 3 nieces - Yvonne (Bonnie), Yvonne and Angela; nephew - Vincent (Veronica); and a host of extended and adopted relatives and friends.
