Hazel Ellison

‘The Lord called home one of his special angels, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother”! Hazel Irene Ellison was born February 11, 1934 in Denmark, TN to the late Sam and Lessie Fentress. Hazel was educated in the Medon County School System. Hazel met and married Raymond L. Ellison, Sr. in 1949 and they moved to Saginaw, MI in 1952. Hazel accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Truevine Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years, where she was a member of the Mission Department and a past member of the Nurses Guild. Hazel worked at K-Mart and retired in 1993 after 26 years of service. She also was a Beautician for over 25 years. Some of Hazel’s hobbies included bowling, traveling, going to Idlewild (a place up North), baseball and playing cards! Hazel’s warm smile and gentle personality touched many people’s lives. She possessed a courageous spirit, and a kind, caring nature that showed in her love for her children, family and friends! Hazel departed this life after a long illness on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at the age of 78, surrounded by her family. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Ellison, Sr.; one son, four brothers, and one grandson. Hazel leaves to cherish her precious memory, four daughters, Bertha (Jessie) McGee, Gwenda (Larry) Conway, Yvonne Ellison, all of Saginaw, MI, and Sharon Roberson, Woodstock, GA; three sons, Tommie (Devanise) Ellison, Saginaw, MI, Raymond (Kimberly) Ellison, Southfield, MI, and Hugh Jennings, Glenwood, IL; two sisters, Bonnie Allen, Saginaw, MI and Vera (Cliff) Merriweather, Medon, TN; four brothers, Wilson (Callie) Fentress, Murray (Bernie) Fentress, Saginaw, MI, Thomas (Brooxie) Fentress, Farmington Hills, MI, Joe Fentress, Redford, MI; sister-in-law, Sandra Fentress; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Truevine Baptist Church, 2930 Janes Street. Rev. Paul E. Broaddus will officiate with entombment in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Avenue on Tuesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
