Mr. James "Mumbles" Louis Price

On Sunday, June 19, 2022, James L. Price who was respectfully and affectionately known as “Mumbles” was born on October 30, 1940, peacefully transitioned to eternal life at the age of 81 years. He was born in Anguilla, Mississippi to Pollard Price and Helen Williams-Price. James graduated from Saginaw High School “Class of 1960”. He served in the United States Marine Corp 1960 – 1964. He received a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from Saginaw Valley State University. He furthered his education at Western Michigan University and received a certificate from the Northwest Traffic Institute. James was a loving and faithful husband to his wife of 60 years, Doris Jean Price. They enjoyed and eating at the casino buffets. They valued family and spending time with their three generations of children. He leaves to cherish his memory and legacy his children, Andre (Mildred) Price, Farragut, TN, Courtney (Julie) Price, Clawson, MI and Savannah Price, Saginaw, MI. James was a Man of God and a member of New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. His life was dedicated to protecting and serving his community. In 1965, he joined the Saginaw Police Department. In addition to patrol duties, he worked in the Juvenile Investigation Division. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1982. In 1985, James was promoted to Deputy Chief of Police. Upon retirement, he remained engaged in the community as Head of Campus Safety, Buena Vista School District, then Court Security Officer for the Bay City Federal Court. James had the privilege of being a member of the Black Police Officers Associates (BPOA) and National Organization of Black Law Executives (NOBLE). He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police 105. Throughout his career he received numerous accolades and recognition. James was known for his integrity, work ethic and gentle spirit. He exemplified love and peace in his family and was a role model throughout the community. James was affectionately loved and called “Grandad” and “Grandpa” by his grandchildren, Giovanni Price, Raven Price, Dante Parent, Jaylen, Jai’lyn, Maya and Tristan Price, Alana Smith, Bre’Ann and Brent’Ney Townend and Mark Blacksher. He especially enjoyed visits and play time with his great-grandchildren, Nasir and Amonce Jimenez, Arabelle Parent and Caleb Bow. James is survived by sisters, Bertha (Leon) Payne, Barbara (Melvin) Conner, Bonnie Price and Sherrie (Roy) Greer; sisters-in-law, Anne Welch-Johnson, Shirlyn Price, Bobby Price, Loretta Price and Willie B. Williamson; daughter-in-law, Kenisha Price; best friends Henry Hopson, Larry Caillier, Nicholas Jimenez and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Williams-Price; father, Pollard Price; his son, Jacques Price was laid to eternal rest in 2012; siblings, LC Williamson, Alonzo, Pollard, Artie, Earl and Helen Price, and Dorothy Wright. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM Monday, June 27, 2022, at New Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 3610 Russell Street, Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Alfred L. Harris, Jr. will officiate. Interment will take place in Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI 48442. Visitation will be 9:00 AM until the time of service.
