Katherine Young

Mrs. Katherine Young departed this life on Monday morning, December 31, 2012 in her home among loving family members at the age of 85 years. God has called home another one of his children: a loving mother, devoted grandmother, affectionate great-grandmother and friend. Katherine was born on April 13, 1927 to the late Charlie and Idella Monroe in Crestview, Florida. As Katherine grew into a beautiful spirited young lady, she was educated in Crestview public school district. Katherine enjoyed traveling, and during her travels she met and married the love of her life, the late Joseph Young, Sr., and out of that loving, faithful and devoted union, they were blessed with seven children. She was employed and retired from St Mary’s Hospital after eighteen years of dedicated service. Her interests included family, gardening, sewing, crocheting, knitting and reading. She devoted much of her time and energy as a supportive wife, mother and grandmother to family members. Katherine enjoyed life, traveling with her family and cooking soul food dinners for all of her children children’s children. She also enjoyed all gatherings and activities involving family quality time with her precious children and their children. Katherine leaves to cherish her memories three devoted sons, Aaron Young, Joseph Young Jr., both of Saginaw, and Jimmie Young of Tennessee; four loving daughters, Patricia (Gerald) Kariem, Estelle Young, Abbey Young and Regina Young, all of Saginaw; twenty-six beloved grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren; a special god-daughter, Inez Williams; special family members, Altermease Walton, Ethelyn Riddick, H. Ray Monroe, Lonnie Monroe and Jake Monroe; special friend Areila Taylor; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph Young Sr. Thanks to the Covenant Visiting Nurses and a sincere thank you to Shirley Jones. Funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue. Imam Robert A. Shaheed will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
