Mrs. Lizzie Pickett

Beginning Lizzie Lee (Jessie) Pickett, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt was born, September 24, 1935, in Union Springs, Alabama to Aberdean Jessie and Tommie Mae Mc Cray. Lizzie entered God's presence on March 10, 2025, at the age of 89 years. Family Lizzie was the seventh child of 12 siblings: Lula (Bro) Watkins, Willie Dean (Solomon) Burch, T.J. Jessie, Tom Jessie, Eva (Helton) Briggs, Ethel (Junior) Lamar, Ruby (Jimmie) Simmons, Aberdean (Susie) Jessie and her only living sibling, Tommie Moore; sisters-in-law, Ina Jessie, Dolly Jessie, Jeff Anna, Lula Baker and Mammie Pickett. Marriage Liz graduated from Bullock County School with a desire to continue her education and become a nurse. However, she continued to work on her family's farm until she fell in love with Cassie B. "Hot" Pickett. They were married on September 13, 1954, and relocated from Union Springs, Alabama to Saginaw, Michigan. From this union 5 children were born, Bonn (Otis) Washington, Janice Pickett Rowe (angel of God), Danny Pickett, Anthony (Phyllis) Pickett, Bruce (Leonora) Pickett, bonus son, Edrick Rowe and bonus daughter, Delina Pickett. She had 13 grandchildren: Nicki Washington, Tyrell Washington, Travis (Whitney) Washington, Tre’Von Rowe (Kelondra Brackins), Cassie Rowe, Delmetha Pickett, Danyea (Keon) Jones, Daniel (Cassandra) Mehari, Ashley Pickett, Shantiesha Pruitt, Bryana Pickett, Chassie (Reggie) Rogers, Nachelle Snyder and Joi Snyder who deceased. God continued to bless her with eight great-grandchildren: Rihan, Kiyan, Rylee, Rias, Zoē, Amias, Brayleigh, Joas, Grace and Christian; a host of nieces and nephews. Service Lizzie LOVED spending time with family and friends. Some might say she had the "neighborhood house.” She had a way of making you feel important and cared for. Lizzie retired from the Community Hospital after more than 20 years of dedicated service as a housekeeper, brightening the days of patients and staff alike with her contagious smile. She accepted Christ at an early age. Lizzie attended Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the Young Matron Ministry, then moved on to the Mission Ministry. Later, as a member of Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, she served as president of the In Touch Ministry. Through her actions, she embodied the role of a mother of the church, despite not having the title. We are truly blessed that God gave us 89 years to love and be loved by Lizzie; a gift that provided us countless, beautiful and cherished memories together. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Messiah Baptist Church, 2615 Williamson Rd., Saginaw, MI 48601, with the funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Otis Washington will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington, Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
