Mr. Louis Sneed

Mr. Louis Frank Sneed was born to John Sneed and Lula Mae (Walker) Wilkins on June 16, 1937 in Troy, Alabama. It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Louis at his home in Saginaw, to the great beyond on Saturday, July 9, 2022. He lived his life as a God-fearing man who greatly enjoyed being around his family, church family, and friends. Brother Sneed looked forward to singing his heart out every Sunday morning as a baritone in Truvine Baptist Church Senior Choir and the Male Chorus. Being a faithful and dutiful member of Truvine, he enjoyed serving on the Usher Board. He also had a consistent passion for exercise in his retirement years. Many a day over the last four decades you would surely find him blazing a trail around the indoor/outdoor tracks located at the Saginaw YMCA. After high school, Louis Frank served in the U. S. Army and soon after, he gained employment at Saginaw Malleable Iron Plant, General Motors Corp. He was an accomplished leader in the UAW Local #455 where he was voted as chairman and committeeman on several occasions throughout his 30-year tenure. He married Mae Francis Sneed in 1961 forming an unbreakable union of 51 years. She preceded him in death. Louis was an avid sports fan, but he particularly loved the game of college football. Over the years some of his favorite players were Doug Williams, Steve McNair and Lamar Jackson. He had a special affinity for African-American quarterbacks due to the historical stereotypes that limited their opportunities at that position in years past. Louis leaves to honor his memory, his children, Richard (Anita) Sneed, Pittsburgh, Alvin Sneed, Iowa and Calvin (Lakeisha) Sneed, Virginia; four siblings, James (Helen) Weems, Saginaw, MI, Thomas Wilkins, Southfield, MI, Tyrone Strickland, Grand Rapids, MI and Otis Strickland, Jr., Saginaw, MI; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; an array of nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mr. Sneed was also preceded in death by his parents, John Sneed and Lula Mae Wilkins and one brother, Harold Wilkins. The family extends special thanks to Robert “Bobby” Glover, Jr. Memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, 2930 Janes St., Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Paul E. Broaddus will officiate.
