Mrs. Lucy Mae Smith

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at the age of 95 years. She was born on November 17, 1927 to Jake and Willie Lou Thompson in Columbus, Georgia. Mrs. Lucy Mae (Thompson) Smith graduated from Columbus High School in Columbus, GA. She married Willie Tom Smith on September 11, 1946 and they relocated to Saginaw, Michigan. God blessed them to share 64 years together. Lucy loved God, enjoyed life, family members and friends. She was always there with a smile and well-spoken words of wisdom. Lucy was a devoted member of Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church since 1946 where she served faithfully as Vice-President of the Usher Board, Supervisor of the Jr. Ushers, and Secretary of the Mission. She served as the President of the Saginaw Valley Baptist District Association Ushers. God blessed Lucy with a gift of entrepreneurship and was the owner of Lucy’s Daycare and Tisha’s Boutique. Her hats and suits were so renown and loved that if you were wearing her outfits, you were “Sho’ Nuff looking good”. Her memory will be forever cherished by her sons, Allen (Denise) and Wendell (Joyce) Smith; her grandchildren, Natisha, Alana, and Mary; great-grandchildren, Jade and Caleb; god-children, Melissa White, Cynthia Fuller, Danielle Weary, Terry Woodley, Pearl King, Faye Hardwick, Jackie Strothers and Gwen Howard; son-in-law, Freddie Sykes; many nieces including special niece, Doris Jones; many nephews, a host of other relatives. Lucy’s life was blessed by so many beautiful friends, Gladys Humes, Delta Hawkins, Mary Brockway, Rosemary Sanders, Betty Sanders, Denise Jackson, Lula Lyons, Gloria Wilson, and Tiffany Brookins. Mrs. Lucy Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Tom Smith; daughter, Denise Sykes; grandson, Donald Smith; parents, Jake and Willie Lou Thompson; sister, Virginia Doss; friends, Jimmy Logan, Annie Jackson and Lucille Surles. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her care giver, Jacqueline Thomas and Pastor Marvin T. Smith and the Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church, and a special thanks to Dr. Lorenzo and the Covenant Cooper 4th floor staff. Mrs. Smith will be truly missed but never forgotten. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, September 29, 2023, at Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church, 1114 N. 6th St., Saginaw, MI, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Dr. Marvin T. Smith will officiate. Interment will take place in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, 7475 Holland Rd., Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
