Mrs. Margaret Louise Wright

.We pause at this time to honor the life of Margaret Louise (Powell) Wright of Saginaw, Michigan. She was born on May 21, 1929 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama one of nine children to DeWitt and Jennie Lee Powell. She passed away June 25, 2016 at the age of 77 years. Her siblings, Katie Lee Walker, Dorothy Dixon, Lewis Kendrick Powell and DeWitt Powell and her parents preceded her in death. Margaret and family moved to Saginaw, MI in her teenage years. One of the first memorable and life lasting moments was when she found Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church as her home of worship. As a youngster she had dedicated her life to Christ, and became an active member. She attended Saginaw High School (Home of the Trojans) and later graduated in 1958. Soon after starting her last year of high school, through a mutual friend at the time, she met Ulysses Wright, her beloved husband. As Ulysses would describe meeting Margaret, it was truly love at first sight and he knew that she was created by God especially for him. In fact as fate would have it he and Margaret wed under the law of God that same year and soon after started a family. From this union four children were born, Ulysses, Jr., Crystal Yolanda, Toni Danielle and April San'Qunetta. As a loving wife and mother Margaret began working in the school system and a local hospital for many years before starting a career with Eaton Corporation where she retired with more than 25 years of service. She provided her children with a solid footing that was filled with love, discipline, and order. She was faithful to Bethel A.M.E. Church where she served in multiple roles as a dedicated member on the Steward, Trustee and Usher Boards for parishioners. Margaret loved Bethel and Bethel loved her back voting and crowning her "4th District A.M.E. Queen" for her outstanding service and commitment. Margaret was active in the community by becoming a member of the Eastern Star and serving as a board member, was a member of the Lioness Club where she soon became President; she enjoyed being a member of the Chip and Putt Golf Club with some of her dearest friends. She was a great golfer, playing golf was her passion. One relished memory in her life was while attending the Buick Open she met the incomparable Tiger Woods in his prime, and she enjoyed bowling. She enjoyed travel to Jerusalem, Australia, Mexico, Barbados and several other international cruises with her family. Mrs. Powell leaves to cherish many precious memories her loving and devoted husband, Ulysses Wright; daughter, Crystal Robinson of Saginaw, MI, Toni Wright of Flint, MI and April (Lorenzo) Smith of Grand Rapids, MI; son, Ulysses, Jr. (Barbara) Wright of Carrollton, TX; stepdaughters, Shirley and Vivian Wright of Edward, MS; stepson, Rhen Wright of Mississippi; siblings, Anna McMullen, Elizabeth Henry, Arthur (Vicki) Powell and Robert (Linda) Powell; grandchildren, Sharahl Byrd, Khristoffer Wright, Kenya (Eric) Burbank, Jarrett Wright, Vincent Wright, Terrence “Keyon” (Bridgett) Wright, Ulysses Wright III, Marcellus (Jessica) Wright, Devin Wright, Aidan Wright, Monte Smith, Ian Wright, Saleem Hinton and Katrina Wright (preceded in death); 17 great-grandchildren; a goddaughter, Sheila Ray; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends Doris Hinton and Hattie Ray. Family hour 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 535 Cathay Street with funeral service commencing at 12 Noon. Pastor P. David Saunders will officiate. Interment Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home on Friday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Family hour 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 535 Cathay Street with funeral service commencing at 12 Noon.
