Ms. Maria "Mona" Letha Lewis

Maria was born May 13, 1966 in Cary, Mississippi the daughter of Luther and Ernestine Lewis. She was called home on Monday, August 22, 2022 at the age of 56 years. She was a member of St. Johns Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor James Hodge. Maria “Mona” came to Michigan along with her family in August of 1966. She recognized the Lord’s existence at a young age. She was raised in Saginaw, Michigan, graduated from Saginaw High School in 1984, and later while attending college in Kalamazoo, she decided to make that town her home. Maria received an Associates Degree in Musicology from Western Michigan University. Over the years she was employed as a musician, a caregiver, and a Services Coordinator with the Kalamazoo County Department of Public Health. Maria loved…loved…loved to sing. She loved volunteering her time and talents to many causes and organizations including the Saginaw County 4-H, The Saginaw County Ethnic (Black Arts) Festival, hospital patients on the holidays, senior citizen, senior citizen homes and with small children. Maria Letha Lewis leaves to cherish her memory, one sister, Betty Frazier, Saginaw, MI; one practically a sister, Katherine Frazier, Saginaw; three brothers, Richard Lewis, Flint, Luther Lewis, Saginaw and Ricky Lewis, Bay City; four aunts, Martha Sherman and Alterine Frazier both of Saginaw, Caludia Davis, New Orleans, LA and Annie Montgomery, Vicksburg, MS; one uncle, Charles Buckner, Cary, MS. Maria had no biological children of her own but she lovingly helped to rear, entertain and teach self-pride to her beloved nieces and nephews; five nieces, Keiara Lewis, Greensboro, NC, Brittany Ackerman and Shavon Lewis both of Saginaw, Kilynn Collins, Greensboro, NC and Alyssa Barnes, Bay City; four nephews, Stephon Lewis, Elkhart, IN, Nicholas Curtis, Big Rapids, Marcus Lewis, Elkhart, IN and Albert Lewis, Jr., Saginaw; special cousins, Cherina Johnson, Cammie Favorite (Bruh), Charels Frazier (Charlie), Alvin Frazier (Stone), Larry Jackson (Cool-J), James Johnson, Jr. (Bop) and Bennie Frazier, other relatives and friends. Maria was preceded in death by her father and mother, Luther Sr. and Ernestine Lewis; brothers, Albert Lewis, Sr. and Donell Frazier; sister-in-law, Geraldine Lewis and a niece, Angela Lewis. The family would like to express special thanks to each and every one who ever loaned our sister a hand when she was in need. To all who showed patience and loaned an ear when she needed to be heard. From the bottom of our hearts, we say thank you very much. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 2, 2022 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607. Visitation will be 9:00 AM until the time of service.
