Ms. Martha B. Mitchell

Ms. Martha B. Mitchell was born on June 21, 1940, but legally documented as June 17, 1940 in Kosciusko, Mississippi (Attala County), to the union of Larce (Isom) and Lillie Clae Johnson-Mitchell. She departed this life peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the age of 85 years. Ms. Martha affectionally known as “Sweet Mama” or “Sweets.” She was a proud resident of Saginaw, Michigan, since 1967 and was a faithful member of Candlelight Missionary Baptist Church. She worked at Michigan Bean Factory and then became a certified Day Care Home Provider. She loved gardening, sewing, playing checkers with her grandchildren and giving people descriptive nicknames. Martha loved helping friends and family. She was a very nurturing mother figure to many and loved every child that she met. Martha left a loving impact on all who knew her. Ms. Martha B. Mitchell leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Dexter (Tammy) Mitchell of Kalamazoo, MI; her daughter, Melissa (Fred Henley) Mitchell of Romulus, MI; honorary children, Lawrence Rayford of Louisville, MS and Cynthia Mitchell of The Free World; five grandchildren, Demeitrius A. Mitchell of Romulus, MI, Kyra L. Mitchell of Dallas, TX, Dexter A. Mitchell II of Kalamazoo, MI, Madison C. Henley and Evan L. Henley, both of Romulus, MI; two sisters, Emma Woodward of Carthage, MS and Clara Mitchell of Saginaw, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including, Linda Troutman and Joann Broaden. Ms. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Larce (Isom) and Lillie Mitchell; her brothers, L.C., David and Willie Mitchell; her sisters, Rosie McAdory, Louise Norman Mitchell and Callie Gladney. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Covenant HealthCare–Cooper and Candlelight Missionary Baptist Church for their compassionate care and support. “Sweets” Final wishes: To my beloved children and grandchildren: I love you all so very much. There is no person that I love more than you all, but you might not believe it. I will be watching over you all. I don’t want a big funeral, just put me away. They always say, give me my flowers while I am living because I won’t know when I am gone. Mama Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2025 at Candle Light Baptist Church, 3305 Ruckle St., Saginaw, Michigan 48601 with a memorial service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Willie R. Mills will officiate.
