Pastor Mattie Lou Works

Pastor Mattie Lou Works passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, July 14, 2019 in Saginaw, Michigan at the age of 84 years. Mattie Lou was born October 20, 1934 to Roosevelt and Ora Lee (Watkins) Allen in Union Springs, Alabama. She married Jimmie Lee Works in Haines City, Florida on April 26, 1953 and a while later they relocated to Saginaw, MI. Pastor Mattie Lou Works gave her life to God in October 1959 as a faithful member under the leadership of Elder Abernathy. In later years she served under Rev. James L. Palmer. She received the call to become a Pastor of the Temple of Faith Apostolic Church on Walnut Street in Saginaw. In later years, she opened up her home for service. Pastor Works was a kind and considerate person who opened up her home to all who were needy, and fed those who were hungry. She would see the good in everyone and witness to people about “Holiness”, teaching the word to whomever would listen. Pastor was loved by many, never judged anyone. The most important thing was, a person’s salvation. She leaves to cherish many memories, her children, Kathleen (Steadford) Samuels, Ajax, Ontario, Canada, Valerie (Terry) Noble, Charles (Targie) Works, Clinton Works, Natalie (Delbert) Harris and Terry Works all of Saginaw; she raised Lakisha Parker and Lyvera Works-Smith as her own; her siblings, Freddie Mae Harris, Ora Lee Melvin, Glenell Allen, Wilma Jean Allen, Minnie Weaver and Tommie Allen; grandchildren, Michelle Kong, Terrilyn Smith, Terry Lamar, Jasmine and Tierra Noble, Terry and Latashia Burt, Tasha Sims, Tammie, Jamie and Cassandra Reis, Natalia, Hannah and Immanuel Harris, Jake Campbell III, Jimmie, Terrance and Thomas Parker, Coreyon Works and Jennifer Williams, Elashia Works, Kiara Jackson, Santana (DeMont) Boone, Fayetteville, NC and Dorothy Crutcher, Cincinnati, OH; two special great- grandsons, Jalen Parker and De’Marrea General; 62 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Moses Works, many other relatives and friends including special friend, Evangelist Dorlean Morgan. Pastor Works was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Lee Works; children, Debra Campbell, Jimmie Works, Annie Gardner; parents, Roosevelt and Ora Lee (Watkins) Allen; siblings, Queen Ester Stubbs, Rosezlia Johnson, Frank McKether, Sr., Lawson, Roosevelt, Jr. Ora Lee Allen; grandchildren, Napoleon Works, Harmony Campbell; son-in-law, Damus Gardner and Jake Campbell, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Patricia Works. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 29, 2019 at the Wolverine State Baptist Headquarters, 615 S. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Mary Allen will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607 on Sunday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. The family will be present from 6:00-8:00 p.m. to greet friends.
