Mrs. Melvie Kay Reese

Melvie Kay “Sis” (Gaiter) Reese, beloved wife of Jerome Reese, Sr., devoted mother of Alnisha (Kenneth, Sr.) Muschette, Waldorf, MD and Jerome, Jr. (Jeannine Williford) Reese passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on May 13, 2024 at the age of 71 years in Saginaw, Michigan. On February 26, 1953 in Saginaw, Michigan, Melvie was the first loving daughter of eight children born to the proud parents of Buford, Sr. and Emma (Townsend) Gaiter. She was dedicated and selfless to the needs of her family. She was the life of the party making sure to keep everyone smiling and laughing. Melvie loved being around her family and providing unwavering support to them. She attended Saginaw High School and graduated from St. Joseph High School “Class of 71”. Melvie committed over 40 years of her life to Heartland Healthcare, working in the Dietary Department. She formed special bonds with the patients, finding joy in serving and caring for them. She loved to travel in her earlier years. Outside of work, she found solace in caring for her grandchildren, visits from family and friends, watching her favorite T.V. shows and listening to blues music. Some of her favorite singers were her cousin, L.J. Reynolds and Johnny Taylor. She is survived by her loving husband, children and grandchildren: Eulalia Muschette, Monica Williford, Kenneth Muschette, Jr., Ana Muschette, Mylin Willford Reese, Alexis, Jalon and Simeon Muschette. Melvie is also survived by her siblings, Jessie (Bruce) Taylor, Memphis, TN, Buford, Jr. (Sallie) Gaiter, Eddie (Brinda) Gaiter, Emma (Terry, Sr.) Richard, Willie Gaiter and Everette Gaiter; brothers and sisters-in-law, Willie Reese, Patricia Johnson and Janice Wimberly all of Valley, AL and Gail Oliver; special niece that was like a daughter, Shandra Gaiter and many other beloved nieces and nephews, Devrette Gaiter, Sr. Wesley (Courtney) Gaiter, Vernon (Tiffany) Gaiter, Gressley Smith, Christopher Smith, Eddie, Jr. (Shawquinna) Gaiter, Eboni Gaiter, Cherel (Anthony) Land, LaCresha (Kevin) Moore, Milton, Jr. (Denise) Oliver, Marshall (Mandi) Oliver, Matthew (Taneisha) Oliver, Terry, Jr. (Setira) Richards, Keshia Richards, Akeshia Speight, Jamar, Whitney and Aaliyah Williamson; great-nieces and nephews, Nyauri Joshua, Marcel Nathan, Marcus Henderson-Gaiter, Mariah Gaiter, Terry Richard III, Devrette, Jr., Jordan and Samantha Gaiter, Bre’Asia Smith, Liliana Gaiter and many more that were precious to her; numerous aunts, uncles and cherished cousins; dear friends, Ms. Doris Davis, Cecil Robinson and Ms. May Snead. Melvie Reese was preceded in death by her parents Mr. Buford, Sr. and Mrs. Emma (Townsend) Gaiter; mother-in-law, Ms. Willie Pearl Reese and eldest brother, Milton Oliver, Sr. Our family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the ICU Medical Team at Covenant HealthCare-Harrison and everyone who provided care and support. We also would like to express our gratitude to family and friends for your kindness, compassion and support during this time. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607. Pastor Robert Corley, Jr. will officiate. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place from 9:00 until the time of service.
