Mr. Mitchell Duane Barlow

Mitchell Duane Barlow, transitioned on May 21, 2024, unexpectantly in his home. Mitch was born January 24, 1951, in Saginaw, Michigan. He was the second son of Charles and Bernice Barlow. He attended Houghton Elementary School, Central Junior High, and was a 1969 graduate of Saginaw High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Western Michigan University and Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan. He married his devoted wife, Joyce, on January 21, 1978, and together they raised two beautiful, accomplished daughters. Mitch began his career at the State of Michigan in protective services. He also held positions at General Motors, Saginaw Community Mental Health as well as Saginaw Public Schools, where he served in various schools as a school social worker. Through this work, he changed the lives of hundreds of students. In his spare time, he was an avid bowler who attended bowling tournaments all over the United States and Canada. He was an award-winning bowler and was loved and cherished by the bowling community. He was recently nominated to the Saginaw Bowling Hall of Fame. His wife Joyce preceded him in death on July 21, 2023. To cherish his memory, Mitchell leaves daughters, Jaynaya Barlow (Jacksonville, FL) and Bridgett Barlow (Jacksonville, FL); granddaughter, Anisa Caines and grandson, Julian Barlow. He is also survived by his loving sister, Belinda Barlow-Poole and brother, Patrick Barlow; uncles, Bobbie Lowery, Tim (Sandra) Lowery, Jonah Lowery, Lee (Leona) lowery, and James lowery Jr; aunts, Irene Lowery, Nadine Welchel, and Marian Ogletree; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. A special thank you to his childhood best friend, Raymond Wickes. Throughout the years he touched so many lives. He truly enhanced the lives of all those who came in contact with him. He never wanted accolades and to be recognized for his work, he truly lived a life of service because of who he was a person, not because of was his job. Mitch was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Bernice Barlow and brother Michael Barlow. Memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at New Covenant Christian Center, 2395 Outer Drive, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Apostle Ron Frierson will officiate.
