Mrs. Nancy Sledge

Mrs. Nancy Pauline Eichelberger Sledge, our dearly beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and sister went home peacefully to be with the Lord on March 19, 2017 at the age of 86 years. She was born to Feaster Eichelberger and Caseline Moore on November 1, 1930 in Philadelphia, Mississippi where she met her beloved husband Deacon R.C. Sledge. They were married for 67 years. At an early age she joined Mount Pleasant #2 Missionary Baptist Church in Noxapater, MS. After moving to Saginaw, Michigan she became an active and dedicated member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in 1954. She was a member of the Senior Choir, served on the usher board and was an active member of the Sunday School Department. Deaconess Sledge was very active in the Saginaw Valley Baptist District Association and the Wolverine State Convention. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, making ceramics, gardening and fishing. Mrs. Sledge retired from Covenant Medical Center-Cooper (formerly St. Luke’s Hospital) as a Nurses’ Assistant. Nancy leaves to cherish many memories her husband, Deacon R.C. Sledge and their seven children; Rebecca Beeman, R.L. Sledge, Shirley (Melvin) Thompson, Samuel (Jennifer) Sledge all of Saginaw, MI, Emanuel (Jill) Sledge of Flint, MI, Bonnie Sledge and Sandra (John) Parks of Atlanta, GA; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Everlee Burnside; one aunt, Desiree Flores; three brothers-in-law, Chester Sledge, Charles (Frances) Sledge of Saginaw, MI and Esther Lee (Helen) Sledge of Kansas City, MO; three sisters-in-law, Edna Walker, Naomi Sledge of Philadelphia, MS, Ernestine Haynes of Omaha, NE; god-daughters, Trina Burch-Townsend and Jacqueline Eichelberger; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Mrs. Sledge was preceded in death by her parents, Feaster Eichelberger and Caseline Moore; sisters, Hazel Moore, Freddie Mae Anderson, Lurethia Stribling and Betty Triplett; brother-in-law, J.D. Sledge; sisters-in-law, Eva Sledge and Eva Mae Culberson; a son-in-law, Timothy Beeman. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 810 Cathay Street. Pastor Blake Strozier will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
