Mr. Oliver Torrence

Oliver Torrence departed this life on October 3, 2025 at the age of 75 years. He was born August 24,1950 to John Torrence Sr. and Hattie (Taylor) Torrence. He accepted Christ at an early age at Little Canaan Primitive Baptist Church in Safford, Alabama under the leadership of Pastor J.T. Alexander. In 1969 Oliver Torrence moved to Michigan, and started working at General Motors, Grey Iron Plant. In 1971, Oliver Torrence became a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Columbus Clayton. Oliver married Diane (Choyce ) Torrence in 1975. They celebrated 49 years of marriage this past December. Oliver later became a Charter member of New Life Missionary Baptist Church in 1986 under the leadership of the Late Pastor Rufus Bradley. He remained a member, under the leadership of Pastor Craig Tatum. Oliver retired from GM in 2000. He continued to work as a Certified Auto Mechanic/Co-owner of T&T Garage for many years alongside his brother, John Torrence Sr. He loved to fish, hunt, and spent every winter in Alabama hunting deer. He loved cars, especially fast cars! When it came to racing, no one was faster than Oliver! HE WAS THE ONE TO BEAT! Mr. Oliver Torrence leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Diane Choyce Torrence of Saginaw, MI; two sons, Oliver Choyce and Avery (Tamara) Torrence; daughter, Chemeka Torrence, all of Saginaw, MI; 11 grandchildren, Latavya Jones, Oliver Choyce, Jr, Lamontae Choyce, Oreon Choyce and Tarleesha Lowery, all of Atlanta, GA, Lamara Choyce, O’nae Carter, Jordan Torrence, Avery Dream Torrence, Demarcus Smith and Eli Smith, all of Saginaw, MI; 22 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Jeanette Virgies of Dacula, GA, Ollie (Elbert) Roach of Murfreesboro, TN and Sarah Woodford of Atlanta, GA; one brother John (Viola) Torrence Jr., of Saginaw, MI; god-brothers, Pastor James Hodge and Terry (Sandy) Waller; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives and friends. Mr. Torrence was preceded in death by his parents, Deacon John and Hattie Torrence, Sr.; one sister; Harriet Solomon. The family would like to express special thanks to all of the loving friends and family that helped us during this time of bereavement. Your acts of kindness have not gone unnoticed. We are truly grateful. The love, honor and respect for our dad, brother, uncle, friend, grand and great-granddad will give us the STRENGTH to carry on in his absence. He was truly ONE OF A KIND! Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2025 at New Life Baptist Ministries, 1401 Janes Street, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Dr. Craig Tatum will officiate interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 from 2:00- 6:00 p.m.
