Mr. Raymond L. Jones

Mr. Raymond Lewis Jones, beloved father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother and friend was called to rest on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at the age of 94 years. Raymond was born on August 12, 1928 in Marshall, Texas to Joseph and Beatrice (Humble) Jones and was the fourth of their six children. Raymond was married to the late Vernestine (Ridgel) Jones. Together, they had six children. Raymond Jones confessed hope in Christ at an early age. He continued this hope in Christ as a member of Christ Community Church, Wadsworth Avenue Presbyterian Church, Warren Avenue Presbyterian Church, and he furthered his faith in God at Ephesus Seventh-day Adventist Church, all in Saginaw, MI. Raymond graduated from Pemberton High School in 1945 in Marshall, Texas. He was the vice-president of his class, in the choral choir, a Boy Scout, and was involved in other school activities. Raymond left Marshall, Texas to seek employment. He started in California with a few friends, but ended in Saginaw, MI working in the automotive industry for General Motors at Malleable Iron. During his employment at GM, Raymond further enhanced his education by attending Saginaw Business Institute. Here retired from Malleable Iron after 50 years of employment in 1998, and have worked the last 25 years as a computer operator for the automatic storage system. It must be noted that during 25 of those 50 years, Raymond worked a second full time job, alternating between the Michigan Sugar Company and Niagara Lumber Company as the seasons permitted. He was truly a hardworking man. Raymond Lewis Jones was a loving, humble, and peaceful gentleman with a kind spirit of giving. He was humorous and had a “merry heart”, and loved to tell stories. He was a very organized person. Raymond was a hard worker that met the challenges and demands placed on him. He was meticulous in caring for his lawn. He was handyman around his home. Raymond, together with his wife and few friends, built his first home from the ground up. He also played the guitar and was a singer in a quartet. Raymond was an avid lover of baseball and football. He loved talking about the games with his children who also shared his passion for sports. His memory will be cherished by his children, daughter, Kimberley Jones, PhD, San Antonio, TX; sons, Willard (Deborah) Jones, Alexandria, VA and Gregory (Cynthia) Jones, San Antonio, TX; daughters-in-law, Barbara Jones and Doris Jones, both of Saginaw, MI; Barbara’s sister, Betty Smith, Saginaw; grandchildren, Dr. LaDonna Jones, Seattle, WA, Stephanie and Shadana Williams, both of Indianapolis, IN, Tanisha (Christopher) Moore, Jennifer Jones and Sarah Jones, all of San Antonio, TX, Rollin Smith and Anthony Williams both of Saginaw and Shalonda Jones, Swartz Creek; great-grandchildren, Gabriela Williams, Indianapolis, IN and August Moore, San Antonio, TX; brother, Clarence Harold Jones of Los Angeles, CA; sister-in-law, Erma Jean Jones, Wilmar, AR; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and other loved ones. Raymond Lewis Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Beatrice Jones; his wife, Vernestine Jones; one daughter, Janice Williams; two sons, Raymond Craig Jones and Donovan Lewis Jones; one grandson, Gregory Keith Jones, Jr.; one sister, Erma M. Jones; three brothers, Joseph Jones, Hobart Lee Jones and Milton Jones and a host of other relatives. Special thanks to Pastor Steve Bramwell and the Ephesus and Fairhaven Seventh-day Adventist Church families for your love and support. Funeral service 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, Michigan 48607. Pastor Steve Bramwell officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM until time of service.
