Mr. Robert Mason "Rocky"

Mr. Robert Lee Mason better known as “Rocky” or “Uncle Rock” was born February 5, 1933 in Pulaski, Tennessee, the son of Preston and Frances (Reedus) Mason. He moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1943. Robert graduated from the Old Saginaw High School in 1951. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War. Mr. Mason retired from Chevrolet Manufacturing 1996 after 42 years of service. He married the love of his life Sandra Strother on July 24, 1958. Robert was a faithful member of Bethel A.M.E. Church where he served on Usher Board #1 and was also a Greeter where he was known as the “Peppermint Candy Man.” In his younger days he loved to fish, play cards and roller skate, but above all he loved his Westerns. Robert will be truly missed. Mr. Robert Lee Mason leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Sandra Mason; three sons, Derek (Carol) Mason, Robert (Patricia) Mason and Dale (Nesha) Mason; eight grandsons and one granddaughter; Dale Terry, Derek K. Mason, II, Turahn Lenoir, Damon Mason, Marcus Jackson, Desmond Mason, Vernell Mason, Robert M. Mason; and Tonya Blackmon; 17 great- grandchildren; two sisters, Myrine Morris and Carol Mason, both of Saginaw, Michigan; three brothers, Dr. William (Alice) Swanson of Ellicott, Maryland, Preston (Gloria) Mason of Saginaw, Michigan and Edward (Gina) Mason of Grand Rapids, Michigan; two sisters-in-law, Al (Maryann) Richards and Eilene Watson, both of Saginaw, Michigan; two god-children, Robin Collins and Danny Grady; also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mr. Mason was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Tammy LaJoyce Mason; parents, Rev. Preston and Frances Mason; sister, Mattie Fordham; father and mother-in-law, Harold and Hattie Strother. The family would like to express a special thank you to Saginaw Senior Care & Rehab Center and Dr. Miles Light. Family Hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 535 Cathay Street. Pastor P. David Saunders, Sr. will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue on Tuesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
