Rubert L. Whitson

Mr. Rubert L. Whitson departed this life on November 30, 2014 at the age of 76 years. He was born June 13, 1938 in Berry, AL to Nubert and Susie (Hollingsworth) Whitson. He attended West Highland High School and became a resident of Saginaw, MI in 1965. He retired from the Grey Iron Foundry in 1991 after 30 years of service and was a member of UAW Local 668. Rubert was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. He enjoyed making people laugh, fishing, barbecuing and spending time with his family and friends, sitting under the tree. Rubert leaves to cherish his memory, three daughters, Mary, Wanda and Pamela Whitson, all of Saginaw, MI; five grandsons, Torrance Whitson of Saginaw, MI, Patrick (Dr. Veneshia) Whitson of Milwaukee, WI, Marcelus, Teveon and Demaris Whitson, all of Saginaw, MI; one granddaughter, Lataysha Whitson of Saginaw, MI; two great-grandsons, Al’Lantae Davis and Torrance Whitson, Jr., both of Saginaw, MI; one great-granddaughter, Ta’Niya Whitson of Saginaw, MI; two step-great-grandsons, Antuan and Eric Davis of Saginaw, MI; two brothers, Franklin and General Whitson, both of Saginaw, MI; four sisters-in-law, Earline Whitson and Mable Haley, both of Saginaw, MI, Marie Pipkins and Bobbie Haley, both of Columbus, OH; three brothers-in-law, Billy (Shirley) Haley of Saginaw, MI, Michael Ervin of Columbus, OH and Tommy Haley of Berry, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and special friends., including a special niece, Darlene Johnson. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ester Whitson; his father and mother, Nubert and Susie Whitson; one granddaughter, Darshaya Whitson; four brothers, Nubert, James, William and Roy Whitson; two sisters, Earlene Stowe and Christine Grayson; one brother-in-law, John Pipkin; and one sister-in-law, Lela Ervin. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 535 Cathay Street. Pastor P. David Saunders will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, on Monday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
