Ms. Rubie "Peaches" LaVerne (Jones) White

Our precious loved one, Rubie “Peaches” LaVerne (Jones) White was born in Saginaw, Michigan to the parents of Henry and Ruth (Sandefur) Jones. She passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at the age of 77 years. Rubie graduated from Saginaw High School and continued her education at Spring Arbor Methodist College earning a Bachelor’s degree in Management and Human Resources. She retired from Flint, Michigan as a supervisor after 28 years of service with General Motors Corporation. She was past Youth director, and a very effective Minister of Music at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church for many years. On May 20, 1989 she became one of the co-founders of Messiah Missionary Baptist Church of which she was a member for 30 years. She has served as Assistant Secretary, the Minister of Music for 25 years, organized the Youth and Adult Choirs as well as the Male Chorus. She was the director of the Easter Plays, introduced, “The Hanging of The Greens” which takes place the first Sunday in December. Music was her passion. She loved gospel music, doing computer work and she was an avid reader. Ms. White was faithful and dedicated as she shared her knowledge and talent as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Eta Upsilon Omega Chapter, where she served in many positions. She was a Gold Lifetime Member of the NAACP where she was Corresponding Secretary and Membership Chair-person. Rubie was Past President of the Home Owners Association (in her neighborhood) and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Peaches was a former member of the Saginaw Valley District Choir and its music staff. She was known for organizing choir workshops to enhance the singing ministries of churches. Rubie leaves to cherish her memory, husband, Jerry White; two sons, Anthony (Alecia) Robinson and Jeremy (Lorena) White; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Pastor Robert D. Jones; a loyal, faithful, dedicated, committed sister, Mary A. Broadway; six nieces, Jacqueline, Renata, Teresa, Melanie, Cheron and Kim; special nephews, Robert, Jr., and Dillard; special cousin, Yvonne Cooper; a special, faithful god-son, Scott (Martha) Matthews, other godchildren; Shirley Spencer, Kim Wright, Lou Ann Fresorger and Bobbi Lynn Norman ;many other relatives and friends including special friends, Sarah Canty, Gwen Lavender, Ann McMillan, Gloria Williams and Kiron Chouldri of the Horizon Conference Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Henry Jones; brothers, Frederick and Louis T. Jones; grandsons, Torrey and Baby Robinson, and an aunt, Rubie Harveson. The family would like to express special thanks to Heartland Hospice Care Nurses, Aides, and Staff for their superior care. Pastor Washington and the entire Messiah Missionary Baptist Church family; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Eta Upsilon Omega Chapter and the Saginaw Branch of the NAACP. Family Hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 9, 2019 at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, 2615 Williamson Rd., Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Eta Upsilon Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will conduct "Ivy Beyond the Wall" Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Funeral service will commence at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Otis Washington, will officiate with entombment in Oakwood Memorial Mausoleum, 5950 Gratiot Rd., Saginaw, MI 48638. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607 on Sunday, from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
