Mrs. Ruby Mae Weems

Mrs. Ruby Mae Weems transitioned on Thursday, February 7, 2019, at the age of 87 years. She was born in Union Springs, Alabama on February 27, 1931, to Eddie Lee and Minnie Cameron. Ruby married Louis F. Weems Sr. in Phoenix City, Alabama on March 1, 1947. They moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1948, where they raised their 10 children. Mrs. Weems was a long time member of New Christ Community Church and served faithfully until her health begin to decline. While attending church she served as a Missionary, member of the Trustee Committee, President of the Senior Choir, as well as a member of the Usher Board. She retired from the Saginaw Board of Education. She was well known for her excellent cooking skills, which she passed on to her children and several of her grandchildren. Not only was she the matriarch of her family, she was also known as the doctor, lawyer, police, even a mountain mover for her grandchildren. Mrs. Weems leaves to cherish her memories seven daughters and two sons, Ruby McGee, Annie Kelly, Dorothy (Andrew) Scott, Sr., Louis Weems, Jr., Juanita Weems, Ricky Weems, Sandra (Daniel) Chaffer, Deborah Weems and Rolonda Walker; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Weems; 23 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; four sisters and one brother, Olavene Johnson, Eva Poindexter of Saginaw, MI, Emma Watkins, Atlanta, GA, Dorothy (Moses) Carter, Montgomery, AL, and Henry Cameron, Cleveland, OH; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; sister-in-law, Gladys Stafford, Passaic, NJ; godchildren, Audrey Parker, Charlie, Shirley and Angie Townsend, Rockielle and Kevius Frazier. Mrs. Weems was preceded in death by her husband, Louis F. Weems, Sr.; one son, Willie (Peter) Weems; one granddaughter, Adrian Weems; two great-grandchildren; her parents, Eddie Lee and Minnie Cameron; siblings, Ezekiel, Edlenton, Roosevelt, Shelly, Johnnie Mae Cameron, Minnie R. Davis and Iola Tate. Special thank you to her caregiver, her daughter, Juanita, job well done, you provided great care for our mother, New Christ Community Church family, Fresenius Kidney Care-Saginaw Riverside, Covenant HealthCare staff, Covenant Visiting Nurse's Association-Hospice Care and Evans & Browne's Funeral Home staff. Family hour 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 16, 2019 at New Christ Community Church, 3302 Grant Street, Saginaw, Michigan 48601 with funeral service commencing at 11:00 A.M., Dr. Eugene Seals, Pastor. Asst. Pastor Audrey Parker will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607 on Friday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Family will be present from 6:00-8:00 p.m. to greet friends.
