Mr. Steven Barker

Mr. Steven “Steve” Barker was born on July 4, 1948 in Bremen, Georgia the son of Robert and Everlee (Caldwell) Barker. He passed away on February 28, 2026 at the age of 77 years. Steven became a resident of Saginaw, Michigan in 1955 and attended Saginaw Public Schools. He became a proud graduate of Saginaw High School, “Class of 1967” becoming a well-known standout and football star throughout the state. His first love was being a chef who made all of his food with love while catering delicious meals. In his free-time he enjoyed being a professional bowler, getting on the grill and spending time with his grandchildren. “Steve” was outgoing, funny, blunt and charismatic. He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Tongua Welch; two sons, Garland Welch and Reginald (Pamela) Helton; life partner, Inez Hinton-Summerall; five bonus children, Shawn (Nonkulueko) Williams, Nakella Williams, Tanya Harris, Erin Washington and Dafreda Brown; 16 grandchildren, Brittany, Charles, Garland Jr., Destany, Te’Airis, T’Keyah, Jayla, T’Onnie, Jalen, Elijah, Shawn Jr., Delvon, Danasia, Jayda, Raine and Camille; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Fifer, Rondalyn Barker and Mary Williams; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins including special cousins, Reller Bradley and Luree McKinney; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Bill Badger, Vicki Peoples, Faye Presley, Eddie Reese and Bobby Glover. Mr. Steven Barker was preceded in death by a son, Steven T. Coffee; grandson, Shane Peoples-Welch; his dad, Robert Barker, Sr.; mom, Everlee (Caldwell) Barker; sister, Marjorie Barnes; brothers, Robert Barker, Jr. and Michael Barker. The family would like to express special thanks to his church family, friends and the Saginaw High School “Class of 67”. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026 at Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 818 N. Washington Ave., Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Pastor Robert Davis will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
