Mr. Thomas Eugene Bivens

Mr. Thomas Eugene Bivens passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at the age of 95 years. He was born July 13, 1924 in Archer, Florida, to Charles and Pearl (Carter) Bivens. Mr. Bivens was raised in Camilla, Georgia, moved to Lima, Ohio, then relocated to Saginaw, MI. He was a WWII Veteran of the United States Army. While in France, he converted to the Catholic faith in 1952. He received an Honorable Discharge as Sergeant First Class (Retired) after 21 years of service. He retired as an Administrative Assistant from Central Foundry Div. of General Motors Corp. and then worked as a counselor at OIC of Metropolitan Saginaw. Thomas earned his Associate’s Degree in Business from Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, FL in 1943 and continued his studies receiving an Associate’s Degree in Psychology from Delta College in 1979. Being devoted to his family, he loved spending quality time doing family activities. Thomas Bivens was dedicated and steadfast to God and the Catholic Faith. He was a faithful member of S.S. Simon & Jude Catholic Church, after a merger, he then became a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and the choir. He loved living in and working in his community. He retired as the President of the Buena Vista School Board District in 1983 and was active in several organizations: The Knights of Peter Claver, The Serra Club, Frontiers International, The Buena Vista Boosters Club, and he attended classes of Tonya & Leroy BV Ballroom Dancing. He enjoyed dancing, singing, tennis, and going to the casino. He leaves to cherish his memory four children, Helen Bivens, Dwayne (Olivia) Bivens, Charles Bivens and John (Sharon) Bivens; six grandchildren, Sharika, John John, Aman, LaMar, Shawn, Sr.(Daphne), and Tyler; five great-grandchildren, Shawn, Jr., Jeremy, Mekhi, Jordan and Charlie; one sister-in-law, Lillie Bivens; brother-in-law, Johnny P. (Jean) Johnson; three nephews; one niece; special relative, Trish Bivens, other relatives and special friends, Mable Holloway and Bobby Davis. Mr. Bivens was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen M. Bivens; parents, Charles and Pearl Bivens; two sisters, Mildred Bivens and Annie Colley; two brothers, George McClain and Milton Bivens. The family will greet friends at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2019 at St. Francis de Sales Church, 3945 Williamson Road, Saginaw, MI 48601 followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass. Father John Mancini will officiate with interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI 48442. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. A vigil will take place at 7:00 p.m.
