Ms. Vera Mae Woods-Cannon

Vera Mae Woods-Cannon of Saginaw Michigan born May 9, 1956 to Peter Haul and Annie Early (Braylock) Woods passed away suddenly in her home on January 15, 2023. Beloved mother, daughter, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and cousin, she will be greatly missed. Vera was a long-time resident of Saginaw, Michigan. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in the “class of 1974” and also graduated from Maranatha Beauty Academy as a Cosmetologist. Vera held several jobs in the Saginaw area including: the Country Club, Kenny Rogers, Magic Kitchen, and La Familia. She lived her commitment to faith and community through her volunteer work at St. Mary’s Hospital and her active membership at the Greater Impact International Ministries. Vera was an outgoing and welcoming person who often demonstrated her love through food, always making sure everyone ate. She loved to start each day with morning texts to friends and family, she stayed connected and close even when separated by distance. Vera had many Facebook friends in which she messaged and commented on their posts daily. She carried her passion for cosmetology into her own look by keeping her hair and nails done; and never held back from flashing her beautiful smile. Vera lived life through love and community, she made friends easily and loved on them and anyone she encountered. She showed love, she lived love, Vera was the definition of love. She leaves to cherish loving two daughters, Dameka Woods and Sharia Woods; one son, Pete Woods; grandchildren, Tanisha, KeAnna B, DeArius, Devaughntae, Quintay, Mikeya, Petriana, Michael, Q’Dale, James, Keyanna, Pete III, Diamond, Janiyah and Pete; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Shermen (Rita) Woods and Richard Woods; 15 nieces and nephews including special, nieces, Pastor Angela Parkes and Alina Cannon, special nephews, Anthony Curry and Anton Parks; two uncles, Ben Braylock of Minneapolis, Minnesota and George Woods of Dallas, Texas; aunts, Georgeanna Slaughter of Gary, Indiana, Margaret Braylock of Boston, Massachusetts, Essiedean Braylock, Earnestine Howard and Essie Mae Stockling, all of Chicago, Illinois; special sister, Genevieve Watts; special friends, Jamie Green, Teledo Gibbs, Joyce Hines, Ann Roberson, Victor McCollum, Pete Cannon, Kenny Roby, Charlene and Darlene Gillespie; other loved ones and a host of friends. Vera was proceeded in death by her parents Peter and Annie Woods; grandmothers, Margaret Braylock and Estelle Woods; brother, Peter Woods, Jr.; sisters, Annie Louise Curry and Margaret Parks; nephews, James Woods, Peter Martin and Richard Blunt. Funeral service 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Greater Impact International Ministries, 2421 Sheridan Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Angela Parkes officiate with interment Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
