Mrs. Verlean Cole

Ms. Verlean Cole was born on April 22, 1935 in Jackson, Mississippi, to the loving parents of Silas and Robelia Clayton. Passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at the age of 91 years. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend whose life was filled with many joyful moments and memories that will be treasured by all who knew her. Verlean had a fiery, outspoken personality and she always told it straight with no chaser. She loved shopping, traveling, and trying her luck at the lottery. She enjoyed keeping up with the world around her, whether watching sports, following her favorite soap operas, or staying informed about politics. These interests gave her plenty to talk about and added to the unique personality that made her special. Verlean’s life was a reflection of a woman who appreciated the simple pleasures. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the memories of her laughter, personality, and especially her cooking will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Verlean leaves to cherish her memory her loving family, four daughters, Patricia (Larry) Foster, Cynthia (Dewayne) Whittington, Joyce (Charles) Humes, Roena Cole; one son, Tony Cole; thirteen grandchildren, Lakeyha (Oscar) Clark, Tenecia (Lawrence) Williams, Shaqwana “Felicia” Foster, Tanika Bryant-Coleman, Johnnie (Tamika) Bryant, Jr., Shiree Cole, Pearnell (Kay) Scroggins, Jr., Jacinta Haley, Tiffany Mitchner, Tony Cole, Jr., LaTesa Robelin and Shaqwanna Cole; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Johnella Thomas; two brothers, Sammie (Ruth) Clayton and Silas (Porsha) Clayton, Jr.; one sister-in-law, Estella Long; one special friend, Delois McNair, along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Cole; parents, Silas and Robelia Clayton; one daughter, Sandra “Kay” Cole; five sisters, Rosie Lee Ray, Leatha Lee Hines, Willie Mae McGowan, Ozree Trezevant, Juanita Hudson; five brothers, Edward Otis Clayton, Earnest Clayton, Rev. Columbus Clayton, Aaron Clayton and Willie Gene Clayton. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2026, at New Galilee Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1722 Sanford St., Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Luciose Lewis will officiate. Interment will take place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 950 N. Center Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
