Mr. William Arthur Cassell

William A. Cassell was born on February 25, 1948 in Wolf Island, Missouri to the late Neal and Leanna Cassell. He was the third youngest child of nine. He passed away on October 10, 2019 at the age of 71 years. William was born a twin and the larger of the two, being the clear indication that there will be no plate left unturned. A plate of pig feet, black eyed peas, macaroni and cheese, greens and cornbread would make his day and you his best friend. Growing up, William was very strong-willed and if you asked his sister Leatrice, she might say hard-headed, but his resilient personality kept him alive in more ways than one. From infancy to adulthood he continually found a way to embrace the present, live freely and on his own terms. Whether he was jive talkin, playing bingo, playing cards, going to the casino, playing on his computer, listening to old school music or eating good soul food, he found happiness. William accepted Christ at an early age. He became a member of Freewill Missionary Baptist Church and remained a member until his departure. William was very conscious of God’s presence in his life, which led him to nurture an estranged relationship with his daughter and grandchildren. William’s faith had been tested numerous times and through it all he remained steadfast to his beliefs. William was proud of his lineage; his daughter and three grandsons were the apples of his eye. If you ever visited him you would see pictures spread widely across his wall. He often times asked for more, as though he had room for more. He served in the U.S. Army, completed a tour in Germany and received an Honorable Discharge. His oldest grandson Deandre, followed in his footsteps joining the United State Air Force. Robert brought him joy, and Christopher reminded him of himself (Lord have mercy)! The resolute love and respect of William A. Cassell will be forever etched into the lives of his daughter, Andreda Williams (Robert), Cleveland, OH; stepdaughter, Stephanie Wilson (Gerald), Cleveland, OH; two sisters, Leatrice Monroe, Saginaw, MI and Betty (Lee Roy), St. Paul, MO; two brothers, Yuker (Slantra) and Willie Cassell, Saginaw, MI; grandsons, Deandre, CA, Robert and Christopher; step-granddaughters, Britany and Brandy Wilson, Cleveland, OH. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Neal Cassell; his mother, Leanna Cassell; two sisters and three brothers. Special thanks to all of the caregivers at Healthsource, Covenant ICU, Select Specialty Care, his sister, Leatrice Monroe and close friends, Larry Monroe and Eddie for supporting William for so many years. Family hour will take place 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2019 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48607 with the funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Kenneth Reed will officiate with interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Road, Holly, Michigan 48442. Visitation will take place 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
