Mrs. Willie G. Morris

Mrs. Willie G. Morris was born December 16, 1923 in Pike County, Alabama to the late Stady Pearson and Verdell Griffin. She passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the age of 92 years. She was married to Wright Morris and to this union they had one daughter, Deborah Ann Morris and the two of them each had a child from a previous marriage, Bettye Morris and Harold Pearson. Mrs. Morris accepted Christ at an early age. She was a charter member of Corinthian Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. O.J Steele. She later united with Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully for 44 years. She was a faithful member of the Senior Usher Board, Deaconess and District Deaconesses, and the Missionary Society. Her most noted dedication was to the kitchen committee. She was treasured for her homemade ice cream, hot water cornbread, amongst many other foods. She had a gift of hospitality and it pleased her heart when others enjoyed her cooking. Her joys of life included being with family and friends, attending church, and watching her Detroit Tigers. Mrs. Morris leaves to cherish her loving memory, two daughters, Deborah Williams and Bettye (Raymond) Baum; grandchildren, Rev. Erica N. Williams, Willie (Lisa) Williams (JR), Gwendolyn (Bryant) Scott, Vincent and Van Baum and Yolanda Moss; a host of great-grandchildren, including Jaiden and Aliyah Williams; a special cousin, Gary (Renay) Griffin; special daughters, Mary Rincher, Lisa Renee Jones, Linda (Robert) Veasley, Patricia Scott Mason, Malone Reid, Ann Moore, Doris Frazier; a special son, Mr. John “Bubba” (Viola) Torrence;, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including special friends, Rev. and Mrs. Jodie Williams and family, Josephine Pelt, Dorothy Sidney and Odessa Eaton. Her husband, Wright Morris; son, Harold G. Pearson; grandson, Tyrone G. Pearson; son-in-law, Willie A. Williams, Sr.; brothers, Ervey Griffin and Grover Pearson; and a special friend, Willie Kate Turner, preceded Mrs. Morris in death. The family would like to express gratitude to the staff at Magnum Care, members of the TrueVine Missionary Baptist Church and Ms. Mary Scott. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at True Vine Missionary Baptist Church, 2930 Janes Street. Pastor Paul E. Broaddus will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue on Tuesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present for a family hour from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
